DESCRIPTION | A booklet containing a scholarly essay entitled “Out West,” by Paul Carter, that examines the origins of the mythology of the west, viewed through the lens of the region’s distinctive biophysical environment, and rooted in the brief period in history upon which the tales of the cowboys and Indians, prospectors and settlers were based. The booklet is illustrated with period photographs and illustrations and includes a selected reading list. Also included is a speech entitled “Mostly Sweat,” addressed to the attendees of the 1958 Arizona Pioneers Reunion entitled Bert Fireman. 40 pages. |
