REPORT OVERVIEW
This document presents the overall academic performance of Arizona high school
graduates as reported by the Arizona Community College Presidents' Council (ACCPC)
districts. The statistics are based on Arizona freshmen attending the summer, fall, and
spring terms immediately following high school graduation. This report covers Academic
Year 2007-2008 high school graduates attending college in 2008-2009. Additional data
is available by high school by community college district upon request from ACCPC.
The First English and First Mathematics sections include information on the academic
performance of 2007-2008 high school graduates in what is called the first English or
first mathematics courses taken at the community college.
The English courses are generally categorized as pre-freshman English (PFE) and
include courses like ENG061, 071 and 091; freshman English (FE) and include courses
like ENG1 01, ENG1 02, or the primary English course required for a degree; advanced
English (AE) and include courses like advanced English or honors English; and other
English (OE) and include English courses numbered at 100 level or above taken first
and not categorized elsewhere.
The mathematics courses are generally summarized as pre-intermediate algebra (PIA)
and include courses like MAT033, 059, 082 and 092; intermediate algebra (lA) and
include courses like MAT120, 121, 122 and math courses taken as a prerequisite to
college algebra; college algebra (CA) and include courses like MAT150, 151, 152 and
187; calculus (C) and include courses like MAT212, 220, 230 and 240; and, other
college mathematics (OCM) and include math courses numbered at 100 level or above
taken first and not categorized elsewhere.
