Dear Senator Bee:

GFFICE OF .1 Ht. rKt~ II)£ NT
Pursuant to Arizona Revised Statutes 37- 643.02 ( C), this annual report on the Community
Protection Initiative Fund is submitted to The Governor, The President of the Senate, The
Speaker of the House of Representatives, The Joint Legislative Budget Committee, The
Secretary of State, and The Arizona State Library Archives and Public Records.
In FY 2008, the Legislature appropriated $ 1,000,000 from the General Fund to establish the
Community Protection Initiative Fund. The monies are used to assist local governments and
private landowners in reducing the volume , of natural vegetative hazardous fuels on nonfederal
forested land in Arizona.
House Bill 2620; Chapter 53, reduced the Community Protection Initiative Fund by $ 6,800
resulting in a revised beginning balance of $ 993,200. FY 2008 expenditures totaled $ 53,000
leaving an available balance of $ 940,200. Obligated funding in FY 2008 includes pass- thru grant
contracts to ten applicants totaling $ 850,000, and the University of Arizona for $ 20,000. The
remaining balance will be used for necessary GIS and program related costs to administer the
fund and to offset expenditures to the General Fund.
The attached report details the financial activities of the fund during the period July 1, 2007 thru
June 30, 2008 ( State Fiscal Year 2008) as well as the remaining obligated and projected
expenditures noted above.
Sincerely yours,
~
