Taipei, Taiwan and Phoenix, Arizona signed a formal agreement to establish a strong and long-lasting sister cities relationship on March 13, 1979.
Taipei is one of Phoenix's oldest sister city partners, and the Phoenix Sister Cities Taipei Sister Cities Committee plays an important role as a bridge to a connect the City of Phoenix, Arizona, and the City of Taipei, Taiwan through arts and culture, education, sports, technology, food, and business exchanges.
The Taipei Committee provides complementary year-round outreach to the public and students from kindergarten to college to promote cultural awareness and diversity, and to promote Taipei, Taiwan. Phoenix Sister Cities Taipei City Committee members volunteer, support and participate in: award-winning Taipei Chinese Culture Summer Camp, culture and education exchanges, official delegation trips, tour opportunities, business exchanges, youth ambassador exchange programs, delegations visits, performing groups, disability awareness, art and poetry contests, photo competitions, sports and high-tech exchanges, international young artist competitions, international young writers competitions. The Taipei Committee also strongly supports the Taipei-Phoenix Sister Cities relationship through youth ambassadors and teacher exchanges.
Among its many activities, committee members and volunteers are actively involved with and coordinate the Lunar Chinese New Year Festival, Lantern Festival, and Moon Festival; Taiwan exhibitions and Taiwan artists exhibitions; Taipei Chinese Culture Summer Camp; Chinese formal characters events; Double Ten celebrations; Taipei culture and folk performances and delegation visits; City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation International Children Culture Day and back to school events; Girl Scouts Arizona cultural events; Arizona Dragon Boat Festival; Phoenix Sister Cities Global Links business luncheons; Mayor's International Gala; Taiwanese American Heritage Week; East Meets West Iron Chef Competition; and the Festival of Cheer Around the World.
In recognition of the Sister Cities relationship, the Taipei City Government contributed two traditional authentic dragon boats to Phoenix Sister Cities to honor the remarkable friendship.
