BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
March 27, 1952
Short Version
Meeting called to order at 8:04 P.M., Dr. H.D. Cogswell, President, presiding.
Dr. Beaton moved that the regular meeting scheduled for April 8th be dispensed with on account of the Sectional Meeting of the Arizona College of Surgeons to be held then. Motion seconded by Dr. Kohl and carried.
A letter from Dr. Arnold Lieberman, stating that he felt that no effort at conciliation had been made in his case, that he had never received a copy of the charges, and that he believes he can prove to the satisfaction of the Board of Directors that any charges of Mr. Eugene N_____ are false, was read by the President. It was moved by Dr. Kohl that this letter acknowledged to the effect that the Board of Directors recognizes Dr. Lieberman's right of appeal; that we, as a body, the Pima County Medical society, do not feel that our decision should be reversed under any circumstances, nor should the case be reheard, but that if there is any appeal to be made it should be made to the Grievance Committee of the Arizona Medical Association, and that we should abide by their decision. Motion seconded by Dr. Beaton and carried.
A letter from Mrs. Floyd C. Thompson concerning bills for the care of her daughter was read. It was moved by Dr. Farness that this matter be turned over to the Board of Censors and that they talk with Mrs. Thompson and explain our limitations in handling it. Motion seconded by Dr. Hewitt and carried.
A letter of thanks from the American College of Surgeons for the offer of assistance from the Society was read and accepted.
A letter from Mr. Wayne Sanders, President of the Tucson Sunshine Climate Club, inquiring as to what could be done to obtain recognition of the Club from the Society was read. Dr. Beaton moved that Mr. Sanders letter be answered informing him that we are unable, as a Society, to make a contribution, and that the Board of Directors feels that if the Sunshine Climate Club would contact members individually they might have a good response. Motion seconded by Dr. Hayden and carried.
Dr. Cogswell appointed Doctors C.A.L. Stephens, John R. Schwartzmann and David E. Engle to the Medical Advisory Committee for a workshop program being initiated for physically handicapped people who are confined to their homes but who may be physically able to do some work, thereby producing merchandise that can be sold. (Arizona Society for Crippled Children).
Dr. Kent suggested that it would be good public relations to have a room donated to the new YMCA by the Society, and moved that all donations that the doctors and their wives have made and will make be donated as a lump sum from the Pima County Medical Society. Motion seconded by Dr. Harry Thompson, with the amendment that this be passed by the Society at its next meeting. Amendment seconded and carried. Motion carried.
Mr. Harry V. Cameron was present as a guest at this meeting, and the situation concerning Tucson Medical Center was discussed.
