Geronimo
Perspective and Point of View of the San Carlos
Apache Tribe
By Wendsler Nosie, Sr., Chairman
“There have been many stories circulated about Geronimo and the
Apache people. Unfortunately, some are worth repeating and some are
words in the wind. It is important to understand that Geronimo was a
warrior with a spiritual gift. The spiritual gift allowed him to see visions
of what will become of his homelands and his people. Ensuing, he did
what anyone would do to protect the ways of the Apache people as
Usen, the Creator had provided.
The religious culture bestowed to the Apache people was something
that was at the forefront of everything that they did. From food
gathering to the birth of an infant, the rituals of prayers and songs were
always practiced to ensure everything they did was in the best interest of
their people and that they were in balance with the Creator’s wondrous
creations.
The abounding history entailed there are of profound depictions of the
First People in North America. The chronological events of the trials and
tribulation of Geronimo and our ancestors is a testimony of their
conviction to endure the onslaught of the federal government and
settlers are of great importance to the children of the future.
