EXECUTIVE ORDER 2003-15 REQUIRING COORDINATION AMONG VARIOUS STATE AGENCIES TO FIGHT HUNGER
WHEREAS, Arizona has a strong commitment to ending hunger in the state; and WHEREAS, Arizona affirms that hunger anywhere in Arizona is a threat to our well-being everywhere in Arizona; and WHEREAS, Arizona recognizes that adequate nutrition creates a population that is productive and able to achieve its potential; and WHEREAS, the Joint Legislative Committee on Hunger and the Arizona Hunger Advisory Council continue to document the magnitude of the state's hunger problem; and WHEREAS, the coordinated efforts of various state agencies are essential to addressing the issues of hunger; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Janet Napolitano, Governor of the State of Arizona, do hereby direct the following state agencies to work with each other and with the community in order to achieve a coordinated approach to addressing hunger in Arizona: Departments of Administration, Agriculture, Corrections, Education, Economic Security and Health Services. Specific activities of the state agencies shall include but not be limited to: 1. Department of Administration--working with food and nutrition programs/agencies eligible to receive property under the federal donation program regarding equipment and other needs that may be met from state surplus property; 2. Department of Agriculture--promoting the donations of excess product by growers and partnering with statewide gleaning efforts; 3. Department of Corrections--continuing the practice of providing inmates for gleaning and other services at no cost to the food bank network; 4. Departments of Economic Security, Education, and Health Services--providing leadership through coordination and support to address the issues of hunger.
