ASU researches interested in· interviewing students.
Faculty and graduate students working on a stud, for ASU's Department of Higher
and Adult Education are interested in interviewing GCC students. The purpose of
these interviews is to obtain student impressions of what services are available to
them at GeC and to ask more about the process of using the various services. These
interviews are part of a larger studey which GCC has been participating in over the
last year and a half. For students who are interested in scheduling an interview,
a sign-up sheet is available in the Student Activities Office, SO 113•. Interviewers

t\lILLIAM SHAKESPEARE IS IN TO~TN
Shakespeare-rB corning to GLENDALE, ARIZONA with The National Shakespeare
Company's appearance at CACTUS HIGH AUDITORIUM on March 8, 1981. This
past decade has seen a huge jump in the interest and support of
Shakespeare in America. There are many factors which have helped to
increase the popularity of"William Shakespeare, one of the strongest
reasons being the ever-increasing number of Shakespeare festivals which
are presented each year across America. This past summer over 35 such
festivals were' held, 12 of which drew audiences in excess of 100,000.
Shakespeare's plays were, in their time, the entertainment of the masses,
which can be linked to the popularity of a Neil Simon today. Another
reason for this popularity might be the recent performances of major
films sars with many Shakespeare festivals. In recent years the list
has included Al Pacino, Jon Voight, Henry Winkler, Meryl Streep, George
C. Scott and last summer found Richard Dreyfuss performing Iago in the
New York Shakespeare Festival production of Othello. Why do actors
return so often to Shakespeare's plays? The answer can be found in the
wealth and depth of the plays he wrote over 400 years ago. In his
lifetime he wrote over 30 plays of history, tragedy, comedy and romance.
In addition to the appeal to the actor of the many challenging characters
and situations he offers, Shakespeare has inspired many operas,
ballets and plays down through the centuries since they were written.
Among the more famous spin-offs are Verdi's opera Otello, Mendelssohn's
music composed for A Midsummer Ni~ht's Dream and, of course, most
recently, West Side Storx and Kiss Me Kate on Broadway. All this adds
up to a universal appeal which will offer something for everyone when
