FRESHMAN PETITIONS: Freshman students interested in running for class offices should pick
up petitions on Tuesday and Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Sept. 12 & 13 in the Student
Personnel Office. Election rules, number of signatures needed on petitions and other
necessary information will be given to you at this time. Petitions are due Thursday the 14
at NOON. Eligible candidates will be posted in SO - 1. The Elections Assembly will be
held on Tuesday, Sept. 19 in the Student Union Grill Room. Elections are Sept. 20 & 21.

EL TIEMPO PASANDO: Don't miss the first issue of El Tiempo Pasando, GCC's own newspaper.
Copies will be available at no cost Friday, September 29, at various places around campus.
RECREATION-NOON HOUR: Monday through Friday-Equipment and facilities are available in
gym weights, gym badminton, gym table tennis, outdoor basketball, tennis, handball, golf,
etc. A checkout station will be maintained from 10:00 to 12:50 p.m. at the northwest
corner of the P.E. locker building. I.D. cards must be left for equipment responsibility.
Equipment may also be checked out in the afternoon for open facilities.
A.W.S. BIG-LITTLE SISTER PARTY: All women students and women faculty~ Don't forget the

INTRODUCTION TO ARCHEOLOGY: This course will have its first field trip of the semester this
coming Saturday, September 30. Visits will be made to the Museum of Northern Arizona in
Flagstaff, and Sunset Crater and Wupatki National Monuments just outside of town. Any
students who wish to come along will be welcome, but they ~ ~ arrangements for their
~ transporta~io~. The group will meet in the parking lot in front of Cortez High School
to leave for Flagstaff at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Bring a picnic lunch. See Mr. Cook
in office #48 for details.
PSyqHOLOGY CLUB: A "Get Acquainted" reception will be held September 29, 1967 from 3:30 to
4:30 p.c. in the Student Union. Anyone interested in joining the club is welcome.
CHESS CLUB: There will be a meeting of all students who are interested in joining the
G.C.C. Chess Club on Thursday, September 28, at 12:00 p.m. in Mr. Como's office. Bldg. 400.
NEWMAN CLU~: The group will launch its year by holding a Fall Mass on campus this
Thursday, Septemcer 28; in the science lecture room #1. If you've never attended a mass
with guitars, this promises to be quite an experience~

BOOK REVIEWS: Reviews will be held every Tuesday from October 3 through April 9, 1968 at
11:00 a.m. in the Student Center. A musical program will precede each presentation.
On October 3, Dr. John F. Prince, President Maricopa County J. C. District,will review
Edward and the Edwardians by Jullian Phelippe.
CONTINUING EDUCATION FAMILY NIGHT: On Friday, October 6, at 6:00 p.m. a buffet supper will
be served in the Grill Room of the Student Union Building. The dinner will be free. "
CURT THE CLOWN, a well-known valley celebrity, will entertain both children and adults.
While the children enjoy rides around the campus in Curt's fire engine, the WINDJAMMERS,
an excellent folk-singing group, will entertain the adults. RESERVATIONS FOR THIS EVENT
MUST BE MADE BY SEPTEMBER 29 IN THE CONTINUING EDUCATION OFFICE.
SYMPHONY CONCERT TICKETS: The first appearance of the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra at Glendale
Community College will be November 11. Tickets for students are available in the bookstore.
Each student will be given one free ticket with his identification card. Students may
purchase as many additional tickets as they want for $1.25. These are bleacher seats and
are not reserved. Reserved season tickets are available through Miss Butler, Ext. 255 or
Mrs. Dutton, Ext. 230 and are $6.00 for the season.
ARTISTS SERIES: David Schoenbrun, October 20, 8:00 p.m. This noted lecturer will speak on
Viet Nam in the Student Lounge of the Student Union. The event ~s open to the facu~ty,
students, and public free of charge.
Robert L. Short, October 15, 3:00 p.m. in the Student Lounge of the
Student Union. He will speak on The Gospel According !�� Peanuts. The event is open to the
faculty, students, and public free of charge. .
G.C.C. AQUATICS CLUB: The club is open to all students and faculty members. The first
meeting will be 'Friday, 1:00 p.m. - October 6 at the Westside Tennis Club, 902 West Glendale

A:W.S. OFFJ~E~ FACULTY ~HEON: All faculty members and elected officers of the five
student government organizations are invited to attend the A.W.S. Officer-Faculty Luncheon
to be held at 12:00 in the east end of the cafeteria. The purpose of this function is to
acquaint the faculty members with each other and with the student government officers.
VETERANS' SERVICE ORGANIZATION PICNIC: The location for the Veterans' Organization pot-o
luck pi~~ic on Sunday, October 15 at 2:00 p.m. has been changed from North Mountain Park
to Thunderbird Park-2 miles north of Bell Road. Bring food for your family and also a

VIETNAM LECTURE: On Friday, October 20 at 8:00 p.m. the Associated Students of Continuing
Education will sponsor David Schoenbrun, a television news analyst and commentator who will
lecture on Vietnam.
G.C.C. BAND: The Band will put on a marching exhibition at the G.C.C. - Arizona Western
Homecoming Game. The theme will be "A South American Dream" and the game will be held at
the Glendale High School~Saturday, October 21.
HOMECOMING ROYALTY ELECTIONS: Voting shall take place on the north side of the Bookstore on
Tuesday and Wednesday, October 17-18. Polls will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

EXPERIMENT IN INTERNATIONAL LIVING: Would you like to spend the summer in a foreign countryas
a 'member' of a family group? G.e.c. hopes to sponsor this program by raising funds to
send student(s) abroad during 1968. Students who have further questions or who would like
to apply may pick up an application from Dean Butler in SO-5. Applications are due Dec. 1.
SANTA FOR VIETNAM: The G.C.C. Veterans' Club is sponsoring "Santas for Vietnam." They will
be collecting all serviceable clothing and toys of any kind to be sent to orphans in Vietnam.
Please watch for posters announcing the collection points and further information.
PHI THETA KAPPA INITIATION AND TEA: This annual event will be held on Friday, November 17 at
4:00 p.m. in the Student Union Lounge. The Initiation will be followed by a Tea in honor of
the Initiates at 4:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria Dining Area. All candidates for initiation are
to report to SC-l at 3:45 p.m. for a question period on Phi Theta Kappa. All present members
are urged to attend the Initiation and Tea. There will be a charge of 50¢ for present
members and guests. Dress will be dark suits, if possible, for men and party dresses for
~om~n.
YMCA: The West Valley YMCA visited Glendale Community College Tuesday, October 31 and talked
to the Student Advisory Committee about starting a Leadership Club at Glendale C.C. Students
in education, physical education, psychology, social work, recreation and guidance and
co~n~~ling would be expecially interested. The Leadership Club would give students practical
experience in the area of youth organizations and individual-group counseling.
On November 13-14 and November 20 the West Valley Y will have a table set up in the Student

NEAR EAST DEBATE: On Thursday, November 30, at noon in the Student Lounge Mr. Lyle walcott
will moderate a debate on the Near East situation. Mr. Thomas Cook will take the side of
Arabia and Mr. Harry Matz will take the side of Israel.
1968 RODEO QUEEN: Anyone interested in becoming the 1968 Phoenix Junior Chamber of Commerce

CHRISTI~S VACATION: Last day of classes before Christmas vacation will be Tuesday, December
19. Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 2. This vacation period will be the same for
both day and evening classes. The administrative offices will be open from 8 to 5 during
the vacation period except for ~hristmas and New Year's Day.
During Christmas vacation all students should receive a schedule of classes for second
semester and a card denoting their permanent advisor and the location of his office. Admissions
Office is experimenting with an early advisement whereby students can get their
schedules approved by the advisor between January 2 and January 15. Please read the new
procedures carefully.
CONGRATULATIONS: Janet Smith won 1st place-Oral Interpretation-at Los Angeles, Pierce
Junior College - December 2, 1967. The Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensic Association
presented this award. 30 Junior Colleges participated. Trophy on display in Student Union.

SPEECH TOURNAMENT: Congratulations to Ruth Mills, who brought home a 3rd place trophy in
impromptu speaking from the Mountain States Lower Division Speech Classic, held at Phoenix
College on January 19 and 20. With 11 colleges and universities participating, Ruth
qualified for the final.rounds in both extemporaneous and impromptu speaking. Other
Glendale students participating in the Tournament were: Karlsson Roth and Bob LaCoste in
Persuasive, Jan~t Smith, Mike Coker, and Bob LaCoste in Oral Interpretation, and Neil
Ravella, Terry Palmer, Duane Carr, and John Vail in Debate.

CARTOONIST. LECTURE: Bill Mauldin, noted cartoonist and satirist, will present a lecture
demonstration on Sunday, February 11, at 3:00 p.m. in the Student Lounge of the Student
Union Building. Mr. Mauldin will speak under the auspices of the Continuing Education
Asso~.iated Students' Artists' Series. Faculty members and students may obtain one free
ticket at the bookstore. Additional tickets may be obtained for $1.00.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE: Saturday, February 24, 1968, 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Glendale
Community College. All Associated Students, Student Officers, Club Officers, and those
interested in Student Government may attend.
The purpose of a leadership conference is to promote better student government by training
the student leaders. A leadership conference instructs these leaders in their duties and
acquaints them with their fellow leaders. This is accomplished through workshops and
similar types of discussion groups in which experienced participants can explain the
operations of student government and new participants can learn and ask questions. It is
designed for all persons who desire to take part in student government.
The. conference will begin with a seven a.m. breakfast. A dinner banquet will con~lude the
con£erenc'e activities!~:- There is no charge for any participant and all those interested
are urged to complete a simple application form. These may be obtained at the table in
the lobby of the Student Union or in the A.S. office (SO-2'). Deadline for applications

SPEECH CONTE~T: First Prize $100.00 - Second Prize $50.00 - Third p~ize $25.00. Wh~ can
enter? Any student enrolled at Glendale Community College. What about the speech? The
speech should be persuasive. It should be on a subject of current interest; not more than
nine and not less than seven minutes long. The speech may not be read, however, notes may
be used. Both delivery and content will be judged. Where and Fhen? The preliminary round
of the speech contest will be held in L-35 at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 4 and Tuesday, March
5. The final round will be held in the Student Lounge at noon on Thursday, March 7. How
do I enter? Contact Dr. Lorenzini or Mr. Knowles for an entry blank.

$250 SCHOLARSHIP: The Arizona Council of Epsilon Sigma Alpha will award a $250 scholarship
to a woman student for the 1968-69 academic year. The award may be applied toward tuition,
registration, fees, books, dormitory fees or any other college-connected expense. This
scholarship is awarded in addition to any other grants or scholarships the recipient may
earn. The award will be cancelled if the recipient does not maintain a "B" average or if
she should conduct herself so as to be a discredit to her school. For further information,

HOCKEY NIGHT-MARCH 29, 1968: The Associated Students have purchased 300 hockey tickets for
the March 29 Phoeni~Roadrunner-San Diego Gulls game. All tickets will be distributed on
a first-come-first-serve basis on Monday, March 25 beginning at 10 a.m. in the Student Union
Lobby. All students may obtain one ticket upon presentation of their 1.0. card. Take
advantage of this opportunity to see the Roadrunners in their final weekend appearance of

$100 SCHOLARSHIP: AiResearch Manufacturing Co. is offering two $100 scholarships for next
year for engineering majors. Applicants must register at G.C.C. next year and carry a
minimum of 12 hours each semester. Applications are available in the Counseling Office.
Deadline for returning them is Friday, April 5, 1968.
WOMEN STUDENTS: The Glendale Chamber of Commerce is seeking a Miss Glendale~ Qualifications:
between 18-28 years of age, single and have never been married, Arizona resident 6 months or
more; and be a resident of Glendale, or work in Glendale, or attend school here. Winner
will compete in the Miss Arizona contest. Deadline for entries: Noon, Tuesday, April 9
in the Chamber of Commerce Office, 5708 West Glendale Avenue.
OPERA WORKSHOP: Camelot will be presented on April 5 and 6 by the Opera ~orkshop and
Madrigal Singers. The presentations will be open to students and public free of charge;
however, reservations may be obtained by picking up tickets in the bookstore. People
