activities are invited to join Glendale Community College's speech team. You can become
~ involved in such activities as oral interpretation, persuasive speaking, informative
speaking, extemporaneous speaking, impromptu speaking, and debate. Those students who are
interested should contact Mr. Mancuso in room 0-23 or simply add SE 214, Intercollegiate
~ Speech. For those students interested in intercollegiate debating, add SE 213, Argumentation

CHESS PLAYERS ATTENTION!!!!! If you are interested in chess competition, please leave your

<over 40 people signed up at registration time and would like to include everyone interested.
By polling the members, we hope to get a time slot selected for competition and allow you to
'meet people of equal playing experience. We may hold intra Valley tournaments as our club

VISTA & THE PEACE CORPS: A representative from VISTA and the Peace Corps will be on our
campus-forthe purpose of recruiting on 110nday, October 2, 1972. Interested students may
. talk to the representative in the Student Union on that day from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
PHI THETA KAPPA members may pick up handbooks and pins ordered last spring at the cashier's
, office in the bookstore. PTK will hold a general meeting in the Council Chambers of the
Student Union Building at 10 a.m. Friday, September 22, for special elections and discussion

SCHOLARSHIPS: Airesearch has two $100 scholarships available for a pre-engineering major.
Pick up an application in the Counseling-Scholarship Office, A-15. Deadline for filing is
September 22, 1972, for 1st and 2nd semester, 1972-73.
The Glendale 20-30 Club is offering two $45 scholarships for two full-time male students.
One will go to an athlete and one to a needy student. Applications are available in the

GLENDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO OFFER !!!!!. COURSES: Registration for a series of new "mini"
courses is set for October 9 and 10 with classes starting on October 10 at Glendale Community
College. These "mini" courses are exactly the same as other college courses with the same
n~mber, except the class periods are twice as long as the regular periods are. The classes
w~ll conclude before the Christmas recess just as the regular classes do. Students will be
permitted to enroll for a maximum of nine semester hours. These courses are being started as
~. service to students. Currently enrolled students who are not now carrying a full load will
be permitted to add a class or two depending on their present load. Other students who are
not now enrolled in college are urged to consider enrolling at this time. The college is
'Pfesenting such students an opportunity to earn credits equivalent to half a semester's work.
The following courses will be offered: Math 7, Arizona History 105, Sociology 101,
Physical Education, General Psychology, Elements of Speech, Introduction to Philosophy and
Introduction to Business. All these courses carry three hours credit. These classes, for the
~ost part, must have an acceptable number of registrations in order to make. Information
on these classes is available at the College Admissions Office, Telephone Number 934-2211.

HOTOGRAM PRINT SHOW: The photographic department is proud to announce that the first exhibit
,f the current y~is hanging in Thomas Mall. Consisting entirely of photograms, the prints
isplay the talents of the beginning students of photography. The more than 80 shown prints
epresent exciting and imaginative compositions which are all done without the aid of a
amera. The exhibit will be shown from October 6 through October 13.

TEMPORARY CHRISTMAS EMPLOYMENT: The Arizona State Employment Service will be on campus
Wednesday, October llto recruit student help for temporary Christmas employment in various
Department Stores. Many types of positions will be available such as: sales, stock clerks,
custodians, gift wrapping, cashier, etc. and the pay will range from $1.60 to $2.00 per hour.
The recruiters will be located at a table in the Student Center Foyer from 1 to 3 p.m.
PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS FOR VARSITY BASKETBALL AND WRESTLING: Students interested in participating
in varsity basketball or wrestling will be given physical examinations Thursday evening,
October 12 at 7 p.m. in the Menls P. E. area.

SPEECH TOURNAMENT RESULTS: Congratulations to thes~ven members of Glendale's Speech team
who attended the Citrus Open Invitational Speech Tournament at Mesa Community College on
October 13 and 14. The twelve colleges and universities competing in the tournament entered
a total of 125 students. Glendale was awarded, third place in sweepstakes.competition. Those
Glendale students who distinguished themselves in the tournament are as follows: Debbie
Williams, first place, Persua,sive Speaking-45 student participants; M~ryMachrol, first place,
Impromptu Speaking-40 student participants; Cheri Davis, second place, Persuasive Speaking45
student participants; Jim Barton, fourth place, Oral Interpretation-48 student
participants. Glendale students placed in three of the four individual events which were
Qffered at the tournament.
SECRETARIAL STUDENTS: The Valley of the Sun Chapter of the National Secretaries., Association
(International) will be holding a student seminar for 'Junior College students interested in
a secretarial career. This will be a participation type workshop with such subjects being
covered as: job descriptions, personnel applications, priority decision making, attitude
