SPEECH TOURNAMENT RESULTS: Competing against 21 other colleges the GCC speech team was
. awarded 2nd place in individual events sweepstakes competition at the Arizona Swing Speech
Tournament on Jan. 12. GCC students accumulated 50 points toward sweepstakes, only 5
short of 1st place. Glendale students participating in the tournament were: Jim Barton,
. Sheri Myers, Debbie Dantine, Carol Adams, Diane Dzwonkoski, Marilyn McCoy, Joni Neville, &
Tim Leppert. The tournament was held on the campuses of ASU and P.C. and the competition
ran for 3 days.

COSTA RICA, CENTRAL AMERICA: Glendale Community College now offers a summer extension program
.at Centro Cultural in San Jose, Costa Rica. Cultural education and travel are available at a
very low cost. The student pays only $35.00 a semester more than he would pay if he took the
classes on the Glendale campus. Classes are offered in Spanish, Studio Art, Speech, English,
.Philosophy, History and Latin American Civilization.
The total cost for 10 weeks including transportation, food and lodging is $700-975. This is
,very similar to Northern Arizona University whose semester costs start with a low of $660.
High school students may earn college credits while still attending high school. Request a

AIR FORCE ROTC INTERVIEWS: A representative from ASU Air Force ROTC will be on campus ort Feb.,
21 &22 to answer questions regarding scholarships at ASUfor transfer students. He will be
stationed at a table in the Foyer'·of the Student Union, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

AZ LULAC EDUCATIONAL SERVICE CENTER (The AZ League of United Latin-American Citizens
Educational Center) will be on campus every Wednesday morning~ 9 a.;.-11:30 ~.m. in the
Career Services room, east end of Cafeteria, to help needy students .prepare for transfer
to other colleges and also to inform students about financial aides.
ROTARY INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP: Available for unmarried, sophomore students. Criteria
and applications are in the Scholarship Office. Deadline: March 1, 1974. The awardee
will be required to study in a country other than his own for the study year.
TO ALL PHI THETA KAPPA MEMBERS: There are many new activities on the P.T.K.calendar for
this semester, including films and a state meeting at Phoenix College Feb. 23 from 1-5 p.m.
to form a P.T.K. state organization. Also, your help will be needed for the Book Fair,
March 6 and 7. So be sure to attend the meeting this Thursday, Feb. 21, in B-l07 at 1:05
p.m. and get the details. Don't miss out!!!
PHI THETA KAPPA-CENTENARY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP: Centenary College of Louisiana offers a 1/2
tuition scholarship to any Phi Theta Kappa ~ember who is completing an Associate Degree and
who has a cumulative grade poirttaverage of 3,000 or above on a 4.0=A scale. The award is
$700 per year, is committed for a two year period and requires that a "B" average be maintained
at Centenary. If you are interested in learning more about Centenary College and PTK scholarship,
please write to Director of Admissions, Centenary College of Louisiana, Shreveport, La.,
71104. Please indicate your chapter and send your phone number if you would like a call.
Applications must be received by March 5th.
WARA: All women are welcome to participate in softball intramurals, Monday and Wednesday
at 2:10 to 3:00 p.m.
WOMEN 25 A~~ OVER- Valley of the Sun Chapter of AWARE will award scholarships to some full
time (12 hours) women students for use in the fall, 1974 semester at the community colleges
or the universities. Submission deadline is March 1,,1974. Information and applications
