THE TRAVELER
The Traveler wishes to thank
everyone who stopped at our table
during Student Activities' Week. Feed-back
on G.C.C.'s literary-arts magazine
is greatly appreciated (especially the
compliments). There were many questions
about the selection process. In past
years only the staff was asked to contribute
anonymously. This year: everyone
should submit materials with.. a
cover sheet containing name, address
phone number. and social security number
and should be placed on each page of
work. The cover sheets will be filed
separately. Each member of the staff
reads, and rereads, the submissions
privately and evaluates them on a scale
of one to ten. After the deadline date,
the staff meets and averages the evaluations.
Starting with the tens, we
limit the number of pieces by each
writer and continue down the scale until
space is filled. One criticism
voiced often last week is that The
Traveler seemed dominated by a few
people. That issue is on the agenda
for our first meeting. Complete
guidelines for submitting to The
Traveler are available in LA-131 on the
bulletin board. Pick up a copy and
submit.

Show will be on display

Second Mesa, Arizona, organized this exhibition
in celebration of the historic event. Featured
are thirty-two and paintings by Hopi

thirteen years of age. Their work traces the history of the Hopi from contact with
the Spanish in 1540 to their expulsion in 1680, and through revitalization, 1680-present. This show is sponsored by C.E.A.S.

MINORITY SERVICES EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PLAN
Purpose: To provide motivational educational outreach services to interest and assist minorities.
Services include: Educational resources/materials, educational information, financial aid information, admissions, follow-up, orientation, registration, and student services referral.
The implementation of this program has many facets including:
-providing awareness in the community
--identifying schools/agencies, community organizations
-developing potential student lists by ethnicity
-awareness, materials
-personal contact
-localized (in community) orientation
Many factors need to be considered. Each school’s atmosphere is different, and a separate action plan and strategy must be implemented for each one.
Student financial aid is intricate and also on a first-first-serve basis. Therefore, it is imperative to have informed and prepared prospective students to sign up in early January and early Spring to give the student the advantage of an early application.
This program is headed by Jose Mendoza, Director of Minority Services. To further find out about this worthwhile endeavor, contact him in SPS-20, located in the Student Support Services building.
