Holly Roberts: Painting
Holly Roberts: Painting, a traveling exhibition featuring eighteen oil
paintings on paper and canvas, is on display in the Student Lounge until
October 7, 1983.
The subjects for Holly Roberts' oil paintings include people, dogs, and
horses. The paintings are about the ambiguous, many layered relationships that
exist between people and animals. For example, she sees a complicated relationship
between people and horses, where there exists a constant of fear, anxiety,
trust and love. Her imagc3 are strongly sensual, sometimes having an imler
glow of light with pronounced shadows. Hew palette tends to be soft and toned
down, using reds, pinks, yellows, ochres, grey-blues, and off-whites.
Roberts received her MFA degree from Arizona State University in 1981 and
BA degree from the University of New Mexico in 1973. During 1971-72, she
studied in Ecuador and Hexico. She worked as a curator at the 'l'amarind Institute,
Albuquerque, from 1973-78. She was a graduate teaching assistant at Arizona
;3tab3 University from 1981-82. Roberts presently resides in Zuni, New Mexico.

AUDUBON WILDLIFE FILM SERIES FEATURES ALASKA
"Wild and Wonderful Alaska"~ filmed by naturalist Ken Creed, will be shown at
8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 21, in the Glendale College Student Lounge.
The last great American wilderness is an outdoorsman's paradise - more than a
quarter million square miles of rivers, mountains~ tundra and forests inaccessable
by most means of transportation.
Along the Clilkat River, large concentrations of eagles gather to find food while
bears fish beside them. During the summer months, moose graze on up to 30 pounds
of food a day. In winter, Dall sheep manage to survive on grass and lichen exposed
on high, windy peaks.
Creed explores these and other life cycles in the first Audubon wildlife film of
the season. This event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the
C.E.A.S. Artists' Series.

During the course of a year, more than 500 species of plants send out new
shoots - from tiny desert wildflowers that spend most of their lives as seeds,
to the giant saguaro cactus.
Wildlife activity includes the macabre dance of the desert iguana and the
hummingbirds pollinating flowers against a background of brilliant desert blossom"
Saguaro Country" will be presented by the Audubon Wildlife Film Series at
8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16 in the Glendale College Performing Arts Cent,,;,

The Okavango Delta, a green and tranquil naturalist paradise, is a mixture
of wetlands, grasslands and plains situated in the northern reaches of the
Kalahari Desert in Botswana, Africa.
This area is teeming with wildlife such as lion, lechwe, hippo, zebra,
buffalo, giraffe, elephant and crocodile.
In addition, some 500 species of birds inhabit this 5,800-square-mile
expanse of unspoiled shimmering stillness, which has been described as "Africa's
Last Eden."
Although land is a vanishing commodity in Africa, the animals seen in
"Okavango" move freely in and out of two major reserves as water and security
needs dictate.
Viewers of this film have been facinated by the magnificence and complexity
of Africa's wilderness--wi1derness that may be gone tomorrow.
,Join Michael Culhane and John Panos in this exciting tour by film, Monday,
December 5 in the Glendale College Performing Arts Center.
This event is sponsored by the Continuing Education Associated Students

Student Activities
Editor: Jamalee Holton
Robert Christian, Director
In the Student Lounge from November 28 to December 9 is an exhibition
of photographs by Jerry Sieve and woodcut Callagraph prints by Jim Eder.
Both men are Phoenix area artists.
Jim Eder has been recording the Arizona landscape in his woodcuts and
paintings since 1973. He enjoys working with acrylics which he often uses
in a flowing, aquarelle fashion that are ideally suited to his cloudscapes
and specializes in woodprints often incorporating heavily embossed effects.
Jerry Sieve has been a professional freelance photographer since 1977
and specializes in scenic and nature photography. He uses a large format,
4 X 5 and 8 X 10, almost exclusively. He travels up to 35,000 miles a year,
from Maine to Hawaii, as a photographer.
