Mr. Lyle Walcott will open this year's Speakers' Forum
Series on Wednesday, September 19, with a lecture on
"Thomas Carlyle and the Victorian Era." The talk will
be given in the Student Lounge at 11:00 and, like all
Speakers' Forum lectures, is free to the public. The
Speakers' Forum is sponsored by the Associated Students.

decay." Books like these~ challenged or banned in our
country, will be displayed in the IMC throughout national
Banned Books Week, September 8-15, to emphasize the dangers
of censorship.

PHOENIX SYMPHONY CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
The Phoenix Symphony Chamber Orchestra opens the 1984-1985
CEAS Artists' Series of Glendale Community College at 8p.m.
Friday, September 21 in the Gce Performing Arts Theater.
The Orchestra, featurinq quest conductor and violinist
Franco Gulli, will present works by Antonio Vivaldi.
Gulli, one of the worlds finest violinists, has made
appearences with every principal orchestra and festival
of Europe, the Soviet Union and the United States.
He has performed in solo recital and with his Wife,
pianist Enrica Cavallo, for more than 30 years throughout
North and South America.
Gulli is Professor of Music at Indiana Universities'
School of Music and has taucrht at the Academia Chiqiana
in Siena, Italy and the Conservatory of Music in Lucern,
SWitzerland.
The all Vivaldi concert includes Concerto for Two
Violins and Orchestra. No.8 in A Minor, Op.3: Concerto
for Violin and Ot'chestra in E Ma ior, "Amaroso"; and the
Four Seasons for violin and Stri~q Orchestra, Op. 8.
The Artists' Series is sponsored by the Continuing
Education Associated Students of Glendale College.
Tickets are available at Diamonds Box Office;
The GCC Cashiers Office and at the door and are $4
general public, $2 senior citizens and $1 students.

Ih commemoration of Indian Recognition Week (September 21-28)
the G.e:c. Speakers' Forum will present Dr. Edd Brown,
lecturing on "Tribal/State Relations: Challenges and
Opportunities for the 80 i s."
Dr. Brown is a Papago-Yaqui and assistant director
of the Arizona Department of Economic Security. His talk

The Speakers' Forum is pleased to announce that Ms. Jana
Bommersbachwill address the G.C.C. community on the topic
"What's Wrong t';'fi th Journalism. Ii Ms. Bommersbach, well-known
to readers of the NewTimes, is associate editor of that journal
and the author of numerous articles and news stories. Ms.
Bommer:::bacJ:1 h&8 won many writing and reporting awards in the
Arizona Press Club's annual competition, including the
Journal1stof the Year award. Her lecture will take place
in the Student Lounge at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3;

RIDERS RETURN
Comedic Western Music trio, RIDERS IN THE SKY, return to
Glendale Community College for an 8:00p.m. concert Oct. 20,
in the campus Performing Arts Theater.
Riders first appeared at GCC in March. 1984 before a near
capacity crowd, returning old favorites fro~ the singing
cowboy era such as "Tumbling Tumbleweed~t1 and "Ghost Riders
1n the Sky," which is where they got their name.
The trio can be seen on Cable television's Nashville
Network as hosts of Tumbleweed Theater, tl\e program that
brings bach such greats as Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and Tex
Ritter.
Riders in the Sky are presented by the CEAS Artists'
Series which is sponsored by the Continuing Education
Associated Students of Glendale College.
Tickets are available at Diamonds' Box Office and the
GCC cashiers' office. They will be available at the theater
box office Oct. 18 and 19, from 11:00a.m. to 1:00p.m. For

Handel to Hammerstein. an afternoon of vocal music, will
be presented at 3:00p.m. October 28 in the Glendale College
Performinq Arts Theater.

This year the G.C.C. ~tudents ceramic show and sale will
be held in the student lounge the week of November 26th.
An opening will be held on Tuesday evening, the 27th from
6:30-8:30, with the work of almost 20 students, there promises
to be a large variety.
A book will be ava:.Ll,Sl,bl to reserve pots. On Wednesday,
December 5, any re,l;h,:,,t:·ve:i pots mu~t be picked up or
arrangements made with the indi\ridual potter. 'lhursday, December
6, all pots 11 a'7ailable for sale on a first come
basis. Hours for pot p ck-up will be in the student lounge.

Mac Frampton. the "rock. alternative" pianist. will appear

College Performing Arts TIleater. Frampton and the Glendale
Communtiy College Band. under the direction of John
Tilrasher. will present a three part program Febrary 8.
Selections from "Porgy and Bess" will be featured,·along

tribute to Glendale's 75th bil:'thdav. The finale will be
