Regular October Meeting
October 8, 1940.
Meeting came to order at 8:00 P.M. Tuesday night, October 8th, 1940 at the Pioneer Hotel. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved.
Mr. Roy Drachman of Sunshine Climate Club spoke in behalf of that Club explaining use of monies expended by it, the results obtained and the plans for the future advertising. He also spoke of the present membership drive and stated that he and the Board of Directors of The Club approved of the manner in which the membership was carried out last year among the physicians.
Dr. Matteson of the Dental Society spoke upon Proposition 300, which will be voted upon in the November election. He called attention to the advertising section of that Proposition and advocated support of the Proposition in the coming election.
Dr. Holbrook spoke concerning National Plans for Medical Preparedness explaining plans of obtaining physicians for military duty--both for active duty and for examination of drafted men.
Letter from Dr. C.S. Smith, Nogales, was read--concerning examinations of conscriptees.
Application for membership of Dr. John W. Stacey by transfer from Yuma County Medical Society was accepted after Dr. Holbrook motioned [ "motioned" crossed out; handwritten "moved" inserted ] and Dr. Cates seconded the motion, that it be accepted. Passed.
Communication from Cochise County Medical Society concerning meeting at Bisbee October 12th, was read.
Motion by Dr. Cates, seconded by Dr. Littlefield, that same system as used last year for collecting subscriptions to Sunshine Climate Club be adopted for this year passed. Dr. Biddle to head the drive.
Dr. Kohl reported that the County Society was thanked by the Bundles for Britain Committee for the doctors' contribution of instruments.
Discussion by Dr. Davison and Dr. Kohl [ "Kohl" crossed out; handwritten "Davis" inserted ] concerning legislation against indiscriminate sale of harmful drugs.
Dr. W.C. Davis motioned [ "motioned" crossed out; handwritten "moved" inserted ] that [ handwritten "the" inserted ] Society extend appreciation to Drug Stores of Tucson for their efforts in reducing advertisements of patent medicines and cures; seconded by Dr. Holbrook; carried.
Dr. W. Steen spoke concerning resident medical staff of Pima County Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital--question of licensure. Dr. Littlefield motioned that Pima County Medical Society request State Board of Medical Examiners grant temporary license to resident Medical Staff of Pima County Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital, said license to be effective only during such services. Seconded by Dr. Holbrook. Discussion. Motion withdrawn.
