Regular Meeting
February 10, 1942.
Meeting was called to order by the President, Dr. Roy Hewitt.
The scientific program was opened by a paper "The Use of Endocrines in Gynecology" by Dr. Hollis Brainard.
Due to the length of the program, discussions were deferred to the end of the program. The next paper entitled "Mechanism of Syphilis Serology" was given by Mr. E.L. Braeazele [ Breazeale ] of the Arizona State Laboratory. The last paper, "Treatment of Recurrent Inguinal Hernia", was presented by Dr. J.B. Littlefield.
Maj. Bergquist asked about the calcium determinations on known syphilitics. Dr. Jordan [ Gordon ? ] Reynolds inquired about the time and type of containers in taking blood for serological tests. Dr. Lindberg also discussed the paper on serology in syphilis.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Dr. James M. Walsh's application for membership was read and approved by the Board of Censors and motion was made and passed that he be accepted.
Dr. DuVall's application for membership was read and it was reported that the Board of Censors disapproved. Dr. Davison moved that the application of Dr. DuVall be rejected. Motion was seconded by Dr. Patterson and carried.
A communication from the Chairman of the State Nutritional Council was read.
Dr. Hill then read a letter from Dr. Andes in which he asked to withdraw as a member because of the amount of the dues and assessments. Dr. Hill brought up the question then of there being delay in other members paying their dues and suggested that the County Society take some action on this matter. Dr. Sarlin moved that the Dr. Andes' request be rejected. Dr. Holbrook then made a motion that any action taken previously by the County Society making subscription to the Sunshine Climate Club obligatory and necessary to membership be made null and void, starting with 1943. Dr. Flood requested that consideration be given Dr. Sarlin's motion. Dr. Sarlin then withdrew his motion in favor of Dr. Holbrook's motion. Dr. Davison then seconded the motion of Dr. Holbrook provided an amendment be made to include all other non-medical activities. Amendment accepted by Dr. Holbrook. Dr. Smelker then spoke in favor of the motion and of the principle of staying out of all political and non-medical fields. Dr. Davison then asked if any of the money subscribed this year had been turned over to the Sunshine Climate Club by the Treasurer and was told by the Treasurer that none had been turned over. Motion made by Dr. Holbrook was then voted upon and passed. Dr. Brown moved that this year's assessment to the Sunshine Climate Club with the Treasurer as a donation to the Sunshine Climate Club and asked other members to make similar donations through the Treasurer of the Society, and, if any member who donated through his [ this ? ] Sosicty [ this Society ? ] to the Sunshine Climate Club this year would like to have his contribution returned, that it may be refunded. Motion seconded by Dr. Grauman and passed.
