Regular Meeting
February 9, 1943.
Meeting was called to order by Dr. Presson. Minutes of previous meting were read and approved.
On question from the Chair, Dr. Thomas stated that there were no new developments in legislation for admitting doctors to practice.
Dr. Bugbee then spoke saying that he was applying for certification by the Board of Orthopedists and later would apply for the Crippled Children's work in this area. This was based on advice that the Crippled Children's work be done by men certified by that Board.
Dr. Thomas reported on late developments of procurement and assignment stating that there was uncertainty about determining how many doctors were essential and how many more might be called.
Doctors Kibler and Thomas discussed some of the factors in admitting doctors to practice in Arizona under the present emergency. Dr. Pressn [ Presson ] explained something of the proposed legislation to admit doctors under the emergency and opposed any such legislation.
Dr. Davison made a plea for more help and cooperation on screening of draftees.
Dr. Brown moved that the County Society instruct the Public Relations Committee to advertise in the local papers for one week about the shortage of doctors and asking cooperation of the people. Motion seconded by Dr. Kibler. Motion passed.
Dr. Webster spoke about the work of the National Physicians Committee and asked that we support this work as a group.
Dr. Davison discussed the problem of adequate medical care and advocated support of some form of socialized medicine.
Doctors Lindberg, Presson and Webster continued the discussion about the work of the National Physicians Committee. Dr. Presson appointed the following Committee to liik [ look ] into this matter and report to the Society: Doctors Webster, Clyne and Bensema.
On question, Dr. Presson explained that there would be a two-day State Meeting in Tucson the last of April or the first of May this year. There is to be one day of business and one day of scientific program without any social activity.
Dr. Davison inquired about legislation on the control of contagious disease in this area and suggested that the Society sponsor some such legislation. Dr. Thomas explained that this subject was already covered by the Health Department and Health Laws.
