Special Meeting
April 4, 1944.
Dr. E.M. Hayden, President, called the meeting to order stating that the business program would be deferred to the end of the meeting. He then called upon Rev. Ferguson to open the discussion on the Tucson Medical Center. After a preliminary review of developments, Rev. Ferguson introduced Mr. Chas. S. Aston, the new Medical Center administrator. Mr. Aston spoke regarding the present stage of plans and proposals for remodeling. He pointed out that the work was progressing as fast as possible. Application to the government for an additional gift is pending. In spite of this, present planes are under way and it is hoped that this hospital will be open by July 15th 1944. General discussion followed. At the close, Rev. Ferguson asked the Society to appoint two committees--one Committee on Medical Facilities; and the second, a Committee on Formation of Constitution and By-Laws of the Tucson Medical Center to work with the Board of Directors of the Medical Center.
Dr. Hayden then appointed a Committee on Formation of Constitution and By-Laws of the Tucson Medical Center as follows:

Dr. Hayden discussed the Staff arrangement at St. Mary's and turned over to Dr. Kibler the Staff regulations in use. Dr. Hayden explained that at present the St. Mary's Hospital required members of the Governing Staff to take 75% of their patients to St. Mary's. Mr. Aston turned over the American College of Surgeons recommendations on staff organization to Dr. Kibler.
