Dr. R.K. Smith discussed and moved that "the secretary of our Society be instructed to write to our senators and representatives in Congress stating that Tucson is short of doctors and has been during the entire emergency and that we, as a medical Society, request that our Senators and Representatives ask the War and Navy Departments to send our Doctors home as rapidly as possible. It has been clearly shown by Dr. Holbrook's testimony before the Military Affairs Committee that many more doctors are in service at the present time than are needed. From other sources it is common knowledge that many doctors in service are doing less than an hour's work a day. Since the need in Tucson and vicinity is great we request that action be taken on this matter at once." Dr. Witzberger seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Dr. Kibler asked whether any action had been taken by the State Association in requesting return of the doctors from the armed service.
Dr. Mahoney reported that he had taken the recommendation to the Council on two occasions and was turned down.
Dr. Brown reported for the building committee--mainly that very little space was available.
Dr. Witzberger [ "Witzberger" crossed out; handwritten "Lieberman" inserted ] reported that he had a friend who was willing to put up a medical building for twelve or eighteen doctors on a location on East Broadway.
Meeting adjourned.
