Regular Meeting
December 11, 1945.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted.
A letter from Dr. J.H. Patterson, Secretary of the State Board of Medical Examiners was read. This was to remind the men returning from the armed services about payment of their annual registration fee.
Dr. Lindberg introduced and welcomed the following men home from the armed services: Drs. Ure, Thompson, Sanger, Kohl, Holbrook and W.G. Shultz. Dr. Witzberger reported he had discussed with his Committee the plan for a dinner of the Society for the returning service men. After general discussion, it was unanimously approved to have the dinner on the evening of the next regular County Medical Society meeting--January 8, 1946. (Dr. Mikell came late and was welcomed home.)
Motion was made by Dr. Dixon and seconded by Dr. Sanger, that the application of Dr. Cody Marsh for transfer from Santa Cruz County to Pima County be accepted. Motion carried.
Dr. Hartman reported on the formation of the blood bank for the community and made a motion that the Pima County Medical Society sponsor a civilian blood donor program as set up by the Red Cross. Dr. Hardison was introduced as representative for the Red Cross. He explained the method of study and approach to the problem by the Red Cross and offered the services of the Red Cross to the Community of Tucson, under the auspices of the doctors, to help in setting up a civilian blood donor service.
Dr. Hartman and Dr. Witzberger withdrew the motion stated above and suggested that the Society give the matter further discussion and consideration. Dr. Harry Thompson moved and Dr. Sanger seconded the motion that the matter be referred back to the Committee for further study. Motion carried.
Dr. Lindberg then introduced Maj. Rafkin of the Veterans Hospital.
The scientific program was turned over to the chairman of the program committee. The first paper on "Urological Problems Encountered in the Air Forces" was presented by Dr. W.G. Shultz. Slides illustrating various abnormalities were presented. Dr. Tappan had to leave early and was unable to present her paper.
Dr. Lindberg read a letter from Dr. Brown stating that Kelly and Sundt had an office building at 1811 E. Speedway, formerly Dr. Bledsoe's office, which is available for rental to doctors. Those interested should contact R.A. Schendel of the Arizona Trust and Realty.
