Special Meeting
February 14, 1947.
[ handwritten: This meeting called to order by Dr. Smelker president for the purpose of considering Senate Bill #31. ]
Motion by Dr. Biddle that the Pima County Medical Society support the State Board of Medical Examiners and oppose the passage of Senate Bill #31.
Dr. Gotthelf discussed the motion stating that the Board of Medical Examiners wanted help from the State Society but has not received it.
Dr. Present spoke reminding the Society that in opposing this measure (Senate Bill #31) we should offer reasons why, and express methods of improving our present laws.
General discussion followed. Dr. Harry Thompson proposed a resolution opposing Senate Bill #31, with reasons and provision for improvement in our present laws. Dr. Biddle's motion was seconded by Dr. Harry Thompson. Motion did not pass.
Meeting adjourned for five minutes.
Dr. Harry Thomson then read the following resolution:
WHEREAS, Senate Bill No. 31, introduced by Senator Hathaway is pending before the present Legislature; and
WHEREAS, After careful consideration of its proposal to abolish individual Boards; and,
WHEREAS, It is felt that such a change in legislation is detrimental to the health of the people of Arizona; and,
WHEREAS, The legislation as prepared would not correct certain alleged deficiencies in the present Medical Practice Act,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Pima County Medical Society assembled February 14th, 1947, Tucson, Arizona, go on record as opposed to the passing of Senate Bill #31, and, further, that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Senator Wm. F. Kimball and to those immediately concerned.
Dr. Present moved that the above RESOLUTION be adopted. Seconded by Dr. Nagoda. Motion passed.
