Regular Meeting
May 13, 1947.
Meeting was called to order at the Veterans Hospital. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved.
Under a call for old business, Dr. Witzberger announced the annual barbeque to be held at Don Hill's Farm on May 24th. He also brought up the necessity of having an assessment for the cocktail party for the State Association Meeting.
Dr. Smelker reported on action of the delegates and the executive committee approving a cocktail party for the members at the State Medical Meeting.
The president announced that he had appointed Dr. E.M. Closson, Dr. A.J. Present and Dr. C.M. Witzberger for the County Board of Health program.
Dr. Hastings moved that the Society assess the cost of cocktail party and that the treasurer be instructed to pay this bill. Motion seconded by Dr. Webster. Motion passed.
On motion duly seconded, the following applications were accepted and approved: Dr. George Fraser, Dr. James W. Davis and Dr. Norman A. Jacobson.
Dr. Meade Clyne spoke regarding the operation of the cancer fund and clinic that has been established and is operating at the Medical Center. He moved that the Medical Society appoint a Committee to cooperate with the fund for the benefit of people suffering with cancer in this community. Dr. Holbrook spoke supporting the motion. Dr. Omer asked about the function of such a committee for the Society. Dr. Mikell seconded Dr. Clyne's motion. Motion carried.
Dr. Smelker replied that he would appoint such a committee and ask it to report to the Society at the special meeting at Hill's Farm May 24th.
In opening the scientific program, Dr. Gaines welcomed the Society to the Veterans Hospital. He voiced appreciation for the cooperation of the Society and its members on the consulting staff. Dr. Gaines gave additional report on Hospital analysis.
Dr. Lumer was introduced as Chairman of the Program Committee and called upon Dr. Stein who presented a paper on "Cholesterin Empyema." Dr. Janda presented two cases one on "Amoebic Hepatitis" and another on "Kala Azar." A third case report, "Periarteritis Nodosa" was given
