Meeting called to order by President Dr. R.E. Hastings. Minutes of previous regular meeting and Executive Meeting read and approved.
Report of Committees called for. Cancer Committee composed of Drs. Lindberg, Littlefield and Hartman. Dr. Littlefield reported for Cancer Committee.
Dr. Littlefield reviewed the setup and personnel of the Cancer Clinic of Tucson Medical Center and Pima County Hospital. There is no charge for the medical services at these Clinics. The patient is referred back to his own physician in every instance and the recommendations are sent to the patient's physician. Dr. Littlefield then presented details of possible funds available from the Federal Government to set up a permanent center for cancer detection and treatment.
The scientific program then followed. The first speaker was Dr. A.L. Lindberg who started with the description of a case of cancer of the mouth. He described the radiation and radium therapy used. Dr. W.R. Manning then continued the discussion from a surgical standpoint. He described the surgical procedures used as the next step in treatment. Slides were shown to illustrate the surgery. The patient was then shown in person.
Dr. Louis Hirsch then briefly discussed cancer of the lip--type, pattern and metastasis.
Dr. A.J. Present then described the American Cancer Society function. Dr. A.J. Present and Dr. Royal [ Roy ] W. Rudolph are the Pima County members of the American Cancer Society.
Dr. Clyne moved that the County Society formulate a [ handwritten: specific ] plan to be submitted to National Committee for funds for cancer detection [ handwritten: and research ]. Dr. Rudolph seconded the motion. Discussion of the motion by Dr. R.E. Hastings. Motion carried.
The State Council has approved such a petition for funds.
