A discussion regarding a Central Residency Committee for Tucson was the first order of business. Upon motion by Dr. Hayden, seconded by Dr. Hugh Thompson, it was decided that Pima County Medical Society favor the establishment of a Central Residency Committee for the three Tucson Hospitals; that it be composed of the Chief of the Residency Committee of each hospital, a members of the Administrative Staff of each hospital as ex officio and such other members as the president of Pima County Medical Society may designate, this committee empowered to act for Pima County Medical Society; that it be understood that the committee's duties be educational in scope. Motion was unanimously carried. The president then appointed Dr. Cogswell and Dr. Shoun to act as additional members of such committee.
A motion was made by Dr. Hugh Thompson, seconded by Dr. Cogswell, that the American Rheumatism plan for funds for research in Rheumatic Diseases be approved. Motion was unanimously carried.
The application of Dr. Wagner for membership in the County Medical Society, having been unanimously approved by the credentials committee, was accepted unanimously.
It was the opinion of the members present that a letter should be written to the American Standard Insurance Company regarding insuring of members in this company. It seems that a number of the members of the County Society have applied for insurance under the terms of the agreement with the company and that their checks have not been cashed nor have they heard anything further regarding the policy for which they have applied. The secretary was requested to write a letter to the insurance company asking clarification of its attitude in this respect.
Motion was made by Dr. Cogswell, seconded by Dr. Hayden, that Pima County Medical Society sponsor a Deans Committee for teaching purposes at the U.S. Veterans Hospital at Tucson. Motion was unanimously carried.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:10 PM.
