against a member must be made in writing and delivered to the Secretary, who shall immediately furnish a copy to the accused and the Chairman of the Board of Censors. The Board of Censors shall investigate the charges on their merits, but no action shall be taken by the Board ten days of the presentation of the charges to the accused, nor before giving the accused and accusers ample opportunity to be hears. The Board of Censors shall then report to the accusers, and it they still wish charges preferred shall recommend to the Board of Directors that it report to the Society (1) that the charges are not sustained; or (2) that the charges are sustained and that the accused be (A) censured; (B) suspended for a definite time; or (C) expelled. Censure or suspension shall require a two-thirds vote of the members present and voting, and expulsion of a member shall require a three-fourths vote of those present and voting at a regular meeting. The Board of Censors shall be allowed a maximum time of two months in which to make their investigations and report back to the Society. If they have not been able to complete their investigations within two months, they shall so report to the Society and request an extension of time for a stated period, which may be granted them by a majority vote of the Society. A member suspended for a definite time shall be reinstated at the expiration of that period.
(d) Kindly efforts in the interest of peace, conciliation or reformation, so far as possible and expedient, shall precede the filing to formal charges affecting the character or standing of a member, and the accused shall have opportunity to be heard in his own defense in all trials and proceedings of this nature.
(e) Members expelled from this Society for any cause shall be eligible for membership after one year from date of expulsion and on the same terms and in like manner as original applicants, excepting those of transfer.
Section 4. Associate Members
Associate members may be elected by the membership, upon recommendation of the Board of Directors, and upon approval of the Board of Censors, from those Doctors of Medicine engaged in teaching or research work, or holding positions in the Federal Services, or otherwise who are not licensed to practice medicine and surgery in the State of Arizona, and hence are not eligible to active membership; and from other persons engaged in medical teaching or research or scientific work contributing to medicine and the public health.
Rights: Associate members shall have all the rights and privileges of active members except the right to vote and hold office and of Medical Defense.
