Dr. Kohl stated that is was announced that the policy of the A.M.A. and their plans for dispersement [ i.e., disbursement ] of the funds collected will be handled by a committee of fifty-three physicians. Dr. Hugh Thompson has been asked to represent Arizona. There will be one representative from every state in the Union, and five others, on from Puerto Rico, one from Virgin Islands, one from Alaska, one from Hawaii, and one from the Armed Services. These men are to first meet on February 12th in Chicago, and after that no one knows how often they will have to meet.
Dr. Harry Thompson stated that he thought the whole matter had been badly handled locally. Dr. Hewitt said he felt it should not have been brought up at all, and that someone ought to speak to the membership and get it straight. Dr. Hugh Thompson said--"Inasmuch as I was against it, I will be perfectly willing to get up and talk about it." Dr. Kohl said he thought it should be made clear that the misunderstanding about the obligation was local, and that the A.M.A in no sense wants it to be considered an obligation; that neither the State not the A.M.A. wants anyone to be forced to pay it. Dr. Brown moved that Dr. Hugh Thompson be appointed to talk to the Society about this matter. The motion was seconded by Dr. Shoun, and carried.
Dr. Hayden asked how many people get the Secretary's letter. Dr. Kohl replied that all members of the State Society should receive this. Dr. Harry Thompson called for the reading of the Secretary's letter, and it was read by Dr. Steen. This Letter is to be read at the regular meeting of the Society.
The Secretary mentioned the matter of the letter from the State Society regarding the Medical Practice Act, and about the request for letters to Senators and Representatives to support the measure. The Secretary was instructed to summarize the changes and put them before the Society at the next meeting, and to call the central office and request mimeographed copies of the Act for distribution among the members of the Society here.
A letter from the Veterans Administration headquarters with regard to closer liaison between the Administration and the State and County Medical Societies for mutually beneficial professional advantages was read by the Secretary, who was instructed to answer it.
