Minutes of the Executive Committee meeting of March 7th were read and approved.
The President called for the reports of the various committees, stating that the Health Council is fairly inactive; that he had had a recent telephone conversation with Dr. D.F. Hill, Chairman, who had attended a Public Health meeting. The Public Health budget has been cut, and at a meeting of the Supervisors and Council on Wednesday night, March 30th, restoration of the budget had been discussed.
In calling for report of the entertainment Committee, the President mentioned a lack he had felt in all previous meetings-the greeting and introduction of out of town members, and suggested that we should really act as hosts at the coming convention. He stated he had chosen a committee of young individuals, hoping they might make guests feel at home, and make the doctors feel welcome. Dr. Kohl stated that he felt this was a very excellent idea, providing enthusiasm could be put into it, and that he thought the wives also should be present, to see that auxiliary members are greeted. Dr. Hugh Thompson suggested that part of the duty of this committee should be to see that people are properly located and that they have transportation about town; that the committee might arrange side trips to places of interest around town. Dr. Hugh Thompson also suggested that the State Society might provide financial assistance for a cocktail party, to which Dr. Kohl replied that about the only way in which this could be accomplished would be to add the cost to the charge for the dinner dance, and suggested that the best way to handle this might be to have on hand a certain amount of whiskey and setups, and when the supply is exhausted, refer the members to a bar. Dr. Manning stated that there are no central office funds to provide for such a party, and suggested that we raise the banquet price to cover. Dr. Kohl said that this problem had arisen in previous years, and that the last attempt at pro-rating the cost on a basis of members had resulted in strenuous objections from many who object to liquor and do not themselves drink it. Dr. Manning felt that such a party should be held just before and in the same building as the banquet, for one hour. Dr. Kohl made a motion that the Executive Committee recommend to the Pima County Medical Society at the next meeting that an assessment of $4.00 per member be levied for the purpose of entertaining the doctors and their wives attending the annual meeting in May this year, the time to be just preceding the banquet at the Pioneer Hotel. Dr. Hewitt seconded this motion, and it was carried. Dr. Manning also mentioned that arrangements had been made for golf on Sunday, and a stag get together for those who do not play golf, from 2: to 6: P.M.
Dr. Harry Thompson asked if anything had been done about the party at Dr. Hill's and Dr. Manning replied that this would have to be held sometime between May 20 and 27.
