Regular Meeting
April 12, 1949.
The meeting was called to order Dr. Harry Thompson, President.
The Secretary, Dr. Wm. B. Steen, read the minutes of the previous Regular Meeting, and of the Board of Directors Meeting on April 4th. These were approved as read.
The President introduced the speakers of the evening, who were Dr. J. Dewey Bisgard, of Omaha, Nebraska and Dr. Charles E. Galloway of Evanston, Illinois. Dr. Bisgard spoke on "Causalgias and Neurovascular Disorders of the Extremities" and Dr. Galloway on "The Early Diagnosis of Cervical Carcinoma". Both talks were illustrated with slides.
The names of Doctors Francis J. Bean, Howard Douds, Jack Klein, Teresa McGovern, and Emmett P. Waddell were proposed for membership, and all five were elected thereto by unanimous vote of the present membership, which numbered 35.
The President informed the membership that they would receive programs of the State meeting, and spoke of the previous lack of good fellowship and extending a good hand to visitors at previous meetings, asking that everyone put some time aside for the meeting, greet people and help to make them feel at home. He suggested that the County Society provide for a cocktail party prior to the banquet (which the State Society provides) by means of a levy of $4.00 per member. Dr. Secrist made a motion that every member be assessed $4.00 for this purpose, and Dr. Hirsch seconded the motion, which was carried.
Dr. Hugh Thompson spoke on what is being done with the money collected for the National Education Campaign against compulsory medicine, mentioning the film on the "Health of the American People" and the two amendments to the Welfare Act, which may be the answer needed for the medical care of the needy.
Dr. Harry Thompson stated that the next meeting would be on May 3rd at the Veteran's Hospital.
Announcement was made of Dr. M.M. Brooke's talk on "Intestinal Parasites" to be given on April 19th at the Liberal Arts Building at the University of Arizona.
Dr. Hastings, chairman of the Legislative Committee, announced that no meeting had as yet been held, but that one would be held prior to the State meeting, and that there would probably be a number of amendments to the By-Laws which would be gone over.
There being no further business, meeting was adjourned.
