that a separate fund be created from surplus from the general fund to be added to each year as the Board of Directors may see fit that year, with the purpose of establishing a reserve of some sort, and to be in Government Bonds. Dr. Hewitt seconded the motion, and it was carried. Dr. Kohl moved that, in case the Treasurer finds it necessary to buy above par, for $1,000.00 2-1/2 to 3% interest bearing bond, it should be left to his judgment to pay the additional amount necessary. Dr. Gotthelf seconded this motion, and it was carried.
A letter from Dr. George N. Lewis, who is accepted as a resident at St. Mary's Hospital for 1950, inquiring as to membership dues under residency, was read and discussed. Dr. Hugh Thompson recommended that residents who are A.M.A. members elsewhere be allowed to pay only half the dues, and that the By-Laws be amended to include this group. Dr. Kohl moved that this matter be referred to the Committee for revision of By-Laws for report to this Board in thirty days. This motion seconded by Dr. Hewitt and carried.
Questionnaires concerning Dr. Phillip Welton were discussed. It was decided that these inquiries should be answered, stating that "we have no recommendations to make and if any further information is required, we may be contacted."
A letter from Dr. Francis J. Bean concerning visiting nurse service for Tucson was discussed. The Red Cross Service is to be discontinued in 1950. It was decided that a letter expressing our appreciation of and desire for continuation of nursing service by the Red Cross should be written. It was agreed that some sort of visiting nurse service is essential.
Letter from the Chamber of Commerce concerning bringing conventions to Tucson and contributing $25.00 to the Downtown Club for servicemen from Davis-Monthan Field were read. Dr. Cogswell made a motion that $25.00 be sent as a contribution for this purpose. Dr. Hewitt seconded the motion and it was carried.
A letter from Representative Harold Patten was read by the Secretary and discussed.
A letter from the Army, which is still in need of medical officers for occupation duty, was read.
A letter from Dr. A.L. Lindberg regarding the loss of his projector, instruments and books, which have been borrowed by other members of the Society, was read. Announcement of this is to be made at the meeting on December 13th.
The fact that very few of the nurses on duty at the hospitals are registered with the Arizona State Nurses Association was discussed. Dr. Harry Thompson felt that the doctors should support the State Nurses Association in trying to compel all nurses to be members.
The matter of how Delegates are elected is to be turned over to the Committee on Amendments to the By-laws.
Dr. Hugh Thompson stated that it would seen that the State Society might well consider doing what Colorado and New Mexico are doing in relieving the Board of Censors of unpleasant duties, that is, appoint a central
