meet with Judges Garrett and Mercer Johnson, and he appointed Doctors R.E. Hastings, chairman, E.M. Hayden, and W.B. Steen, a committee for this purpose.
The President requested a report from the Censor's committee, which was given by Dr. R.W. Hewitt, as follows:
Dr. Hewitt read the correspondence from Mr. W.C. Perrine regarding the bills from Dr. Marguerite Williams and Dr. Donald F. Hill for services to the Estate of Zelpha Diehl King, for services rendered, and stated that "It is my feeling, along with Dr. Smelker, that no further action on our part is indicated at this time." Dr. Hayden remarked that he felt it was not up to the Board of Censors to set fees. Dr. Hewitt recommended, for the Board of Censors, to the Board of Directors, that this matter be allowed to rest. Dr. R.E. Hastings made a motion that the recommendation of the Board of Censors be accepted, and the motion was seconded by Dr. Kohl. Discussion of the subject disclosed Dr. Williams' reasons for charging so large a fee, and also that Dr. Williams had agreed to cut her fee in half, and that she was responsible for making a reduction in the consultant's (Dr. Hill's) fee. Dr. Hugh Thompson stated that it was his feeling that if this matter were dropped now the Society would be placed in the position of having taken no action of any sort, after having been approached to act as mediator, and that it seemed to him that there might be some letter to Mr. Perrine, a statement of what has been done, and perhaps keeping the Society in the matter to the point of asking Mr. Perrine to let us know if a satisfactory adjustment is not reached. Dr. Hastings and Dr. Kohl withdrew the motion made above. Dr. Kohl made a motion that the Board of Directors instruct the Board of Censors to write a letter to each of the doctors concerned, informing them that this matter has been maturely discussed by the Board of Directors, and that it feels that the charges are excessive and that we have had correspondence of which they shall receive a copy, and that we recommend to them that they make a settlement with the Estate on the basis of fair medical charges, and that they inform the Medical Society of their intention. A copy of the letter written to the doctors to be sent to Mr. Perrine. Dr. Earl Brown seconded this motion, and it was carried. Dr. Steen stated that it was his feeling that it should be brought to the attention of the Society as a whole that the Board of Directors and the Censors are taking note of this matter. Dr. Kohl suggested to the Board of Censors that it should inform the gentleman (Mr. Perrine) that the matter has not been dropped, and that an effort is being made to get the parties to come to amicable settlement, and Dr. Hugh Thompson seconded this suggestion.
Dr. Joseph G. Lee's application for affiliate membership was reviewed, and discussed. Dr. Kohl moved that the Secretary write Dr. Lee a letter informing him that his application for affiliate membership has been refused, and that he is now in arrears for his regular dues of $75.00. Dr. Hewitt seconded this motion and it was carried.
Dr. Hewitt reported that Dr. L.H. Howard had advised of twelve units of plasma found in Dr. Gatti's office, which could only have come from the County Hospital. Dr. Harry Thompson suggested that if this matter is intended for action, Dr. Gatti might be notified, so that he might arrange to practice elsewhere. Dr. Hugh Thompson moved that the Board of Censors be requested to investigate this matter, as soon as possible, and make recommendation so that appropriate action might be taken against Dr. Gatti.
A letter from Mrs. Dowker in complaint about Dr. A.L. Lieberman was read to the Board of Directors. A Motion was made that this letter be referred to the Board of Censors for action. Motion was seconded by Dr. Shoun, and carried.
