practice of misuse of Blue Cross might be stopped. Dr. Kohl moved that the Chiefs of Staff at the various Hospitals make it a point to have announcements about Blue Cross made at the monthly Staff meetings, obtaining information, lists of diseases, charts, etc., from the Blue Cross headquarters in Phoenix, if necessary. Dr. Hewitt seconded the motion, and it was carried. Dr. Kohl, if possible, will talk on this subject at the regular meeting on October 10th, 1950.
Request of the Arizona Medical Association for the names of a County Auxiliary Committee on Legislation was read by the Secretary. The President appointed Dr. William B. Steen, chairman, Dr. Hollis H. Brainard, and Dr. Donald B. Lewis to this committee, and the Arizona Medical Association is to be so advised.
Request of Barfield's Sanatorium for a list of the members of the Pima County Medical Society was mentioned by the Secretary. It was moved that Barfield's be notified that when they stop admitting patients by any but qualified doctors of medicine, the Society will be glad to furnish them with a list. Motion made by Dr. Hewitt; seconded by Dr. Littlefield. Dr. Kohl suggested that he would be glad to have a talk with the administrator at Barfields, since he personally know the situations, to inquire why this particular patient was admitted and whether it is their intention to continue to admit patients by other than qualified doctors of medicine. Thereupon Dr. Hewitt withdrew his motion and Dr. Littlefield withdrew his second.
Dr. Steen inquired as to whom it might be permissible to give lists of members of the Society. The President felt that this should be left up to the discretion of the Secretary, and that in case of question it should be referred to the Board of Directors or the President.
The President read a letter from the Tucson Community Chest, Inc., stating that they had again asked the Auxiliary of the Pima County Medical Society to help in soliciting members of that Society. Also, they are particularly anxious that doctors present this subject to their employees with the statement that the Community Chest would like to have one day's pay from everyone. Dr. Littlefield felt that doctors should not be asked to do this. The President replied that other employers are doing so.
Report for the Publicity Committee was given by Dr. Lewis, who stated that from the 8th throughout the 21st of October the A.M.A. is sponsoring spot radio announcements which are station breaks throughout the day; that the ones the A.M.A. is paying for are fifteen second ones, and that the sixty second ones on the records sent us are better but would have to be paid for by the Society. He said that the fifteen second announcements are short sentences saying that doctors recommend prepaid medical plans, but the sixty second ones go into more explanation and detail and are more likely to catch the ear. These constitutes two daily announcements besides those put on by the A.M.A., would be run during the same two week period, and would cots the Society $60.00. Dr. Lewis felt that if the Society wishes to try to help the A.M.A. program it should do so by sponsoring these longer announcements. The President stated that there would be some free radio publicity from the Chamber of Commerce concerning the telephone exchange business fairly soon. Dr. Hewitt moved that the proposal to pay for the sixty second announcements be turned down. Dr. Littlefield remarked that he felt with all the newspaper publicity we do not need them. Dr. Kohl seconded Dr. Hewitt's motion. Dr. Harry Thompson stated that the remainder of the
