Board of Directors Meeting
October 5, 1950.
Short version.
Meeting was called to order at 8: P.M. by the President, Hugh C. Thompson. M.D.
A letter from Mr. Morrow, Superintendent of Tucson Public Schools, concerning dust control was read. It was moved that Mr. Morrow be written stating that no one in the Society is capable of estimating the cost but that if it is within the scope of this community to do it, it should be done.
Report of the School Health Committee as presented by Dr. Laidlaw was given by the President. Gratitude to the Pima County Medical Society was expressed for its participation in the program for the year 1949-50. It was moved that it be recommended to the Society that this plan be extended for another year.
The President discussed the participation of the doctors in helping the local selective service boards and in helping the Arizona Military District in examining reservists.
The Auditors report from June 1949 to and including June 1950 was submitted to the Board of Directors.
Letter from the Arizona Medical Association concerning joining veterans organizations was read by the Secretary.
Letter from the Arizona Medical Association concerning the Blue Cross and a talk by Dr. Hawley before the Texas Medical Association was read by the President.
The President appointed a County auxiliary Committee on Legislation, consisting of William B. Steen, M.D., Chairman, and Hollis H. Brainard, M.D., and Donald Be. Lewis, M.D.
Letter from Community Chest, Inc., was read by the President.
Report for the Publicity Committee was given by Dr. Donald B. Lewis. The Board of Directors decided not to cooperated with the A.M.A. in its publicity program from the 8th to the 21st of October.
The President gave a brief report on legislation for the past summer. [ handwritten: Amplify ]
Letter from the Arizona Medical Association requesting the reporting of infantile paralysis cases was read by the Secretary.
Resolution of the Arizona Pharmaceutical Association expressing disapproval of physician owned pharmacies was read by the Secretary.
Letter from the Arizona Medical Association announcing the affiliate membership of Doctors George W. Purcell, C.A. Thomas, and Wm. Magill Schultz was read by the Secretary.
The Secretary announced that a Directory of Ambulance Planes has been received and is in the files of the Society.
The President brought up the subject of the program at the next State association meeting. Some of the Board members were in favor of having the program made up largely of guest speakers while others felt that the doctors throughout the State should be given opportunity to present their papers.
