Dr. Hugh Thompson--"The collection agency turns out to be a vital part of the setup which it is difficult to avoid."
Dr. Hayden--"It is impossible to do one without the other."
Dr. Harry Thompson--"I think this is an individual problem (collection) which can be settled in our own offices."
Dr. Rudolph--"For instance, Harry says he does not want to use the collection agency. Say you have 120 who are in favor of it and half of those do not want to use the collection agency: how can this be handled?"
Dr. Hugh Thompson--"A motion is before the house that it simply come up before the meeting."

The President announced that both the Soroptomists [ Soroptimist Club ] and the Elks have been moved to present an iron lung to the community. On checking, according to Mr. Weeks at Tucson Medical Center, there is a need for at least one more iron lung for the community. The Elks heard of the shortage and first suggested that they would do this, and the Soroptomists [ Soroptimist Club ] came late. In any case, both the Elks and the Soroptomists [ Soroptimist Club ] want to give it to the community in the custody of the Society so that we would have control and there would be no question about who should have it, rather that giving it to the Polio Foundation or the County Hospital. The Secretary stated that the Soroptomists [ Soroptimist Club ] have already ordered one. The Elks will find out if there is anything else they can give for the good of the community. Dr. Harry Thompson stated that the one they had at County Hospital was not felt to be in proper shape to be used, that more modern respirators are more efficient in that they are transportable. He suggested that consultation with someone who does this sort of work might save some money.
The President stated that there are only two respirators in town and that Dr. Webster had ordered the latest model for the Soroptomists [ Soroptimist Club ]. He asked the pleasure of the Board.
It was moved by Dr. Harry Thompson that the Board of Directors approve the gift of the Soroptomists [ Soroptimist ] Club, but also refer it to the men who are doing polio and find out about the later models; that the Society accept custody of the iron lung, and that the Society will be glad to offer suggestions as to the use if they want them. Motion was seconded by Dr. Farness and carried. The President suggested that Dr. Bean needs many things at Pima County General Hospital, and that the Elks might be referred to him for suggestions. He inquired whether the Board thought the Society should have a committee to advise the Elks. Dr. Rudolph inquired if there were need for more that three respirators. Dr. Hugh Thompson replied that the likelihood is very small that more than three would be needed. Dr. Hayden moved that the chair appoint a committee headed by Dr. Steen to investigate the matter of the Elks' gift. Motion was seconded by Dr. Lewis and carried.
A letter from Dr. Henry P. Limbacher regarding the need of the Red Cross for instructors in First Aid and asking for volunteers from the Society was read. Dr. Hewitt moved that this be tabled, as the request should come from the Red Cross. Dr. Limbacher is to obtain a definite statement from the Red Cross official channels.
