Reversion of discussion to proposed new member Dr. Aaron Selig Shevin. Dr. Harry Thompson--"If there is some question in your mind, we should write and confirm his training. I think that the greatest mistake we have made is not to investigate. It is easier done now than in two years."
Dr. Hewitt--"What happens if you turn him down? What basis do you have for turning him down?"
Dr. Harry Thompson--"I move this be reconsidered for two reasons, 1. Whether under present setup Chicago Medical School would be classified as an A school as it now rates to its old graduates, and 2, to confirm his training." There was no second to this motion.
The President raised the question of fees between dentists and physicians, stating that it had been suggested that it might be a good thing to have a committee of the medical society and a committee of the dental society get together and make some agreement as to what they would do for each other. Dr. Newcomb thought this an individual proposition and Dr. Kohl considered it socialistic, and the matter was dropped from discussion.
The President presented a letter written by a patient of Dr. Farness in complaint of a fee. At. Dr. Farness' request this is to be forwarded to the Grievance Committee.
Motion was made by Dr. Lewis that the Chamber of Commerce be informed that no donation toward Christmas street decorations will be made by the Society since individuals members have already donated. Motion was seconded by Dr. Hayden and carried.
Red Cross request for a list of members is to be handled by the Secretary.
Venereal Disease Control Seminars was announced and is to be announced at the regular meeting.
Inquiry was made by the Secretary as to procedures re term membership ending. A letter is to be written each individual advising him to make applications in writing for permanent membership.
Statement of accounts was accepted. Dr. Hayden moved that the Speaker's Fund receive no more allocation of money until such time as it becomes necessary, and that such money as would have reverted to it be put into the General Fund. Dr. Harry Thompson asked that this motion be amended to read that the Speaker's Fund be reduced one thousand dollars, this sum to be invested in a savings bond. Dr. Hewitt seconded Dr. Hayden's motion. Dr. Hayden withdrew his motion and Dr. Hewitt his second. Dr. Harry Thompson moved that one thousand dollars be withdrawn from the Speaker's Fund and invested in a bond. Motion was seconded by Dr. Hayden and carried.
A motion was made by Dr. Harry Thompson that a complete audit be made each year to relieve the office of responsibility. Motion died unseconded.
