Board of Directors Meeting
Short Version
Meeting called to order at 8:10 P.M. by the President, Dr. Royal W. Rudolph.
It was moved by Dr. Beaton to dispense with reading of the Minutes. Motion seconded by Dr. Hastings and carried.
Report of the Alameda Plan Committee as presented by Dr. Kinkade, Chairman, was given by Dr. Hayden, to the effect that of the 162 questionnaires sent out 103 had been returned, and that the majority of members are not in favor of adopting the Plan. The following recommendations were made by the Committee:
1. That the Society should consider the possibility of developing an organized program to improve public relations,
2. That members should be provided with an explanation of the breakdown of our $110.00 yearly dues,
3. That an office should be established for the Pima County Medical Society, this office to be listed in the telephone directory and operated on a full or part time basis, and a secretary instructed to take and direct all calls to the officers of the Society,
4. That a letter of thanks be sent to Mr. Richard Hecker for the excellent work he has done for the Society.
Dr. Hayden said that while the majority of members seemed not to be in favor of adopting the Alameda Plan, they are not quite satisfied with the present setup, and that one of the biggest objections to the Plan seemed to be the increase in dues. It was moved by Dr. Hastings that the President appoint a committee of three to act as a Building Committee to investigate the possibilities of such an office and meeting place. Motion seconded by Dr. Kent and carried. Dr. Hugh Thompson moved that the report of the Alameda Plan Committee be approved by the Board of Directors and its adoption recommended to the society. Motion seconded by Dr. Kent and carried.
Motion was made by Dr. Hastings that Dr. Hal Rice be recommended to the Society for Honorary Membership. Motion seconded and carried.
Letter from Dr. Clarence L. Robbins, Chairman of the Diabetes Committee, replying to the inquiry of the Professional Board of the Arizona Medical Association relative to Committee activities, was read by the President.
Report of the Board of Censors was made by Dr. E.M. Hayden. Dr. Harry Thompson moved that the recommendations of the Board of Censors be accepted. Motion seconded by Dr. Kent and carried.
Letter from the Chairman of the Medical Economics Committee of the Arizona Medical Association concerning House Bill 3349 [ ? ] [ compare Senate Bills 1245 and 2337 ] was read by the President. This Bill is "to provide financial assistance to certain wives of servicemen for the expenses of childbirth", and stipulates that payment would be made to the servicemen's wives rather than direct to the physicians and hospitals. Dr. Hugh Thompson stated that the questionnaires requested by this Committee relative to the opinion of the profession on the plan as it worked during the last War have been returned, and that in his opinion it was not abused as it was previously set up. Since there is no guarantee in this new plan as proposed that doctors or hospitals would ever see any of the money, he felt it to be a vicious one,
