Regular Meeting, May 9, 1950--Page 2.
Dr. Hastings and Dr. Whitehill both accepted the amendment as stated by Dr. Harry Thompson.
The motion, upon being put to vote, was carried.
Dr. Sarlin--"Are any steps to be taken to establish good public relations between the Red Cross and the Society before any action is taken?"
Dr. Hugh Thompson--"That is very important and will be taken care of."
Dr. Samson--"I am sure Mr. Waterson of the Alameda County Medical Association would be glad to give you the benefit of his experience."
Dr. Hugh Thompson--"Mr. Waterson spoke to us here this winter, and is one of the inspirations for the investigation of the situation."
The President announced that the members would receive a letter which is being sent out at the suggestion of the Board of Directors and which will urge all members to take some interest in politics this year, this being also recommended by the A.M.A. and the State Medical Association. Members will probably be approached by a representative of the Democratic party to find out if anyone is willing to serve as precinct committeemen in his precinct, or whether he will suggest someone who is opposed to socialized medicine, and contribute toward this end. This is being done on the premise that if the State convention instructs Delegates to the National Convention to oppose socialized medicine it will have some bearing on the policies of the Democratic and Republican parties for the future, and that if this is carried out all over the county, considerable effect might be felt.
The President announced that a new convalescent home is now being open at 1277 East Lester Street, run by Mrs. M. Porall. No contagious or infectious disease is accepted.
The President hoped everyone would come to the picnic.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
