Report of the Alameda Plan Committee as written up by Dr. Kinkade, Chairman, was given by Dr. Hayden, to the effect that of the 162 questionnaires sent out 103 had been returned, and that the majority of members are not in favor of adopting the Plan. The Alameda Plan Committee, as a result of this questionnaire made the following recommendations:
1. That the Society should consider the possibility of developing an organized program to improve public relations,
2. That members should be provided with an explanation of the breakdown of our $110.00 yearly dues,
3. That an office should be established for the Pima County Medical Society, this office to be listed in the telephone directory and operated on a full or part time basis, and a secretary instructed to take and direct all calls to the officers of the Society,
4. That a letter of thanks be sent to Mr. Richard Hecker for the excellent work he has done for the Society.
Dr. Hayden said that while the majority of members seemed to be in favor of adopting the Alameda Plan, they are not quite satisfied with the present set-up, and that one of the biggest objections to the Plan seemed to be the increase in dues. Concerning the setting up of an office, the President said that the Secretary had mentioned a basement apartment in the home of Dr. Jeremiah Metzger at Main & Franklin Streets which might be available to the Society for rent, and that an office might be established there, with a secretary on duty, and all the files and records in one place. Dr. Kent stated that Dr. Neubauer had informed him that the church at Third and Euclid is available and is for sale at a reasonable price, ($35,000.00), and that this might be well worth investigating. Dr. Hastings suggested [ in right-hand column: (and so moved) ] that the President appoint a committee of three to act as a Building Committee to investigate the possibilities of the Metzger apartment and the church. Dr. Hayden stated that the Alameda Plan Committee had in mind that an employee might spend half a day in the office, that the telephone might be hooked up there and at home, so that people could contact the Society directly. Dr. Hastings' motion seconded by Dr. Kent.
Dr. Hugh Thompson suggested that whoever were to talk with Dr. Metzger should be on good terms with him. Dr. Kent felt that if the Society were to go into the matter of a building or an office, this should also provide a meeting place. Dr. Hastings thought the Miss Benson should be contacted to see if she would be willing to work for the Society at a salary commensurate to what she now earns, that she might be placed in our office and our
