Regular Meeting
April 10, 1951.
Meeting called to order by the President, Dr. Royal W. Rudolph, at 8:20 P.M.
Minutes of the regular meeting of March 13th read by Dr. Rudolph and of the Board of Directors meeting of April 5th, and approved.
Dr. Arthur Grollman, Professor of Medicine at Southwestern Medical College, Dallas, Texas, spoke on the "Practical Management of Acute and Chronic Renal Insufficiency".
The recommendations contained in the report of the Alameda Plan Committee were discussed. Dr. Kinkade stated that the recommendations made were based on the answers received by the committee to the questionnaire which they sent out to the membership, that 70 of 103 members felt that there should be better public relations, that he felt a breakdown of the $100.00 dues was recommended because it is felt that most of the members do not understand what their money goes for; that an office is recommended because it is felt that much misunderstanding and trouble could be avoided if complaints and inquiries could be directed in proper channels. Dr. Beaton moved that the recommendations of the Alameda Plan committee be accepted, since they obviously reflect the opinion of the majority of the members of the Society, and that the Committee be thanked for their efforts. Motion seconded by Dr. Sommerfield. Dr. Lieberman questioned as to just what it would mean if the membership accepts these recommendations. The recommendations were again read by Dr. Kinkade. Dr. Harry Thompson suggested that an amendment to Dr. Beaton's motion be made to the effect that the matter be sent to the Committee as the membership is merely accepting the recommendations for further study. Amendment accepted by Dr. Beaton and Dr. Sommerfield. Motion was carried.
Dr. Hal W. Rice was proposed upon recommendation of the Board of Directors for Honorary Membership, and unanimously elected thereto. Doctors Francis J. Bean, Jack Klein, and Emmett P. Waddell were unanimously elected to permanent membership. Tellers were Dr. Jackman Pyre and Donald Lewis.
Dr. Pyre stated that as yet the Entertainment Committee had no definite announcement to make about the Picnic.
It was announced by Dr. Rudolph that the May meeting will be held on the 8th, at 8: P.M., and Veterans Administration Hospital, when Dr. George Griffiths [ Griffith ] will be guest speaker. Arrangements have been made to entertain the Auxiliary at this same time.
Meeting adjourned.
