The Secretary read a letter from Dr. Joseph M. Kinkade of the State Committee on the Conservation of Hearing, requesting the appointment of an Otologist from the County Society to act as a Committee Chairman for the Conservation of Hearing program in Pima County. It was decided that the present chairman, Dr. Bernstein, should continue in office until the first of the new year, and that the new President could then select a chairman to act in this capacity on a basis to conform with the appointment of our other committees.
The Secretary read a letter from the American Medical Association quoting a section of a letter from the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. It was requested that the County Society supply a panel containing twice the number of physicians needed on the Medical advisory Committee, and the local Infantile Paralysis Group could then select the members of their Advisory Committee from those names submitted. No definite action was taken in this matter.
The secretary read a letter from Dr. Ketcherside, Chairman of the Professional Committee of Arizona's Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plan asking Dr. Rudolph to appoint County Committee consisting of at least three members.
The Secretary read a letter from Dr. Francis J. Bean concerning the problem of resignations of the members from the Pima County Hospital. In the discussion of this letter it was pointed out that the members of the Society had promised to serve on the staff of the Pima County General Hospital; in other words, membership in the Pima County Medical Society carried with it the obligation of serving on the Staff of the County Hospital. It was moved by Dr. Hewitt that the Board of Directors recommend to the Society that no resignations be accepted except for special and specified reasons, and that the Society be formally reminded of its duty to the Pima County General Hospital. Motion seconded by Dr. Harry Thompson and carried. It was moved by Dr. Hugh Thompson that a notice to that effect be included in next month's notice to the members. Motion seconded by Dr. Lewis and carried.
A letter from Dr. William Shultz advising that a Dr. Mikesel [ Mikesell ], at 437 S. Sixth Avenue, had advertised in the daily paper about special courses in lab technician work, physiotherapy and practical nursing. Dr. Hugh Thompson suggested that the respective State Board be written to inquire about Dr. Mikesel's [ Mikesell's ] credentials and that a copy of his brochure be requested.
The subject of the physical plant at Pima County General Hospital was discussed. The problem of addition to the present structure and the question of building a new hospital were considered. It was finally decided that the Publicity Committee should work with the newspapers in providing information acquainting the public with the conditions and needs for the County Hospital. A committee consisting of Hugh C. Thompson, Stuart Sanger and R.E. Hastings was appointed as a Building Committee to work with the County Hospital Building Committee.
Dr. Hugh Thompson reported on the Alameda Plan in Maricopa County.
