The Secretary advised the Board of Directors that a Summary of the Defense Housing and Community Facilities and Services Act of 1951 is available in the Society files.
The Secretary stated that the AMA is making an office plaque available to its member, which invites and encourages patients to talk over with their doctors any questions they might have regarding his service or his fees.
The Secretary announced that information has been received from the AMA that no Fellowship dues for 1952 are required.
The Secretary advised that communication from Whitaker & Baxter tells of Governor Earl Warren of California, who advocates compulsory medicine.
The Secretary stated that pressure is still on in the House of Representatives for compulsory health insurance, that there are still eight Bills on the roster.
Dr. Harry Thompson remarked that he is a little concerned about the attendance at our meetings, and that he wondered if the prominence of the speakers might not have something to do with it.
Dr. Rudolph stated that he had been concerned at the lack of interest shown in balloting for the primary election of officers, and that he thought the attendance at County Society meetings reflects what is going on at the Staff meetings.
Dr. Harry Thompson thought that perhaps we have not had men in that we should have, that too many southern people are being used; that top notch men for whom our people will turn out should be obtained; that more money should be used for the speaker's program and get the men out to meetings.
Dr. Farness stated that high caliber men are being obtained as speakers, but that they are perhaps not nationally known; that another angle for consideration is that we are dependent upon the men through the Veterans Administration Hospital, and that we have the second choice of topics after the Veterans Hospital.
Dr. Beaton suggested that the reason we are not getting a turnout is that there are too many meetings.
Dr. Manning stated that the turnout for meetings of the Staff at St. Mary's and Tucson Medical Center is good.
Dr. Farness remarked that the programs are filled up to May, 1952.
Dr. Harry Thompson felt that something should be done about this next year.
Dr. Farness thought the fact that parking a car near the Pioneer is one difficulty.
The Secretary inquired about the problem of non-member doctors who are given hospital privileges, saying that he thought it should be up to the Hospitals to check on these. It was suggested that lists of members be sent to the Advisory Board of each Hospital, instead of the Administrator, as is now being done. It was also suggested that those men who have been practicing for some time and have made no effort to join the Society be sent application blanks.
Meeting adjourned.
