Regular Meeting
February 12, 1952
The meeting was called to order at 8:10 P.M. by the President, Dr. H.D. Cogswell.
Minutes of the regular meeting of January 15th, 1952 were read by the Secretary, as were the Minutes of the Board of Directors meeting of January 29th, 1952. There being no objections or corrections, they were declared approved as read.
Dr. Myron E. Wegman, Professor of Pediatrics at Louisiana State University, was introduced by Dr. Hugh C. Thompson, and spoke on the subject of "Management of Diarrhoea [ Diarrhea ]".
Dr. Leon Titche repeated the invitation extended previously by the Veterans Administration Hospital that the Pima County Medical society hold its meetings out there. Dr. Manning, Program Chairman, felt that he was not prepared to answer Dr. Titche at this time. It was moved by Dr. Harry Thompson that this be referred to the Program Committee. Motion seconded by Dr. Kent and carried.
Doctors C. Clark Leydic, Jr. and Theodore S. Wittels were proposed for Permanent membership, and Doctors Edmundo Fernandez Felix, William Leland Goodin, William Coryell Scott, and Stuart Wayne Westfall were proposed for Term Membership. Drs. Whitehill and Kettenbach were appointed by the President as tellers, and all the above named doctors were elected to membership, as stated.
Dr. Hugh C. Thompson introduced Dr. E. Henry Running, President of Maricopa County Society, whose leadership put into effect the modification of the Alameda County Plan in Phoenix. Dr. Running stated that he welcomed the opportunity of thanking Dr. Thompson for his interest in the Plan, and that Maricopa County Society considers the Plan to have real merit.
Dr. D.E. [ D.L. ] Secrist spoke in the interest of the new YMCA building. He thought that perhaps if the doctors contributed as a group, they might be more friendly, and stated that the Phoenix doctors had raised over $100,000.00 for the new YMCA which was dedicated there on February 10th. He felt that it would not be too much to ask the doctors here to underwrite $50,000.00, which would be considerably less than $500.00 each, and this could be spread over a two or three year period. He also stated that the doctors would be welcome to have their meetings in the new building at any time.
Meeting adjourned.
