REGULAR MEETING
March 11, 1952.
The meeting was called to order at 8:05 P.M. by the President, Dr. H.D. Cogswell.
Motion was made and seconded that, in the absence of the Secretary, reading of the Minutes of the previous Regular Meeting be dispensed with. Motion carried. Minutes of the March 6th Board of Directors meeting were read by the President, and approved as read.
Dr. George Fraser introduced Dr. Grace A. Goldsmith, Professor of Medicine of Tulane University , New Orleans. The subject of Dr. Goldsmith's talk was "Common Nutritional Problems in General Practice", and illustrative lantern slides were shown.
Dr. George Fraser also introduced Dr. Duane Carr of Memphis, Tennessee, who spoke about two pharmaceutical preparations, Streptokinase, and Streptodornase, and their use in surgical conditions of the chest.
Mr. Leslie Smith, of the Tucson Sunshine Climate Club, spoke about the development of this organization and of Tucson. He asked for some expression of confidence and for more support from the members of the Medical Society, stating that the club feels very strongly the current lack of support.
Doctors Frederick J. Hirsch, Frank A. Nelson, John R. Phillips, Marcus A. Wuerschmidt, and Elmer E. Yeoman were proposed for term membership, and were all elected to term membership.
Dr. Harry E. Thompson spoke about his visit to the Chicago Caucus of the American Medical Education Foundation, and outlined the plan by which members would be contacted to support medical schools by voluntary contributions as a counter measure to government supported and controlled medical schools.
Dr. Cogswell read a notice from the Arizona Advisory Committee to the Selective [ Service ] Commission asking physicians who receive Reserve Commissions to so advise their respective Local Selective Service Boards.
Announcement of the coming State meeting at Phoenix, April 30 to May 3, was made, with the reminder that resolutions to be presented to the House of Delegates must be typewritten on special printed Resolution forms; the invitation of society members to the American College of Surgeons meeting to be held at the Pioneer Hotel on April 7, 8 and 9; and of the invitation to hear Dr. A.C. Ivy at the Sunday Evening Forum on March 16th.
