Letters from Dr. George Dixon, Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board, Pima County Chapter, National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, and Mr. Jack Snell, Executive Secretary of that organization, stating that "At a meeting of the Executive Board 8-13-52, it was unanimously decided by the Board that St. Mary's Hospital would be established as a treatment center for infantile paralysis in Pima County" were read by the secretary. It was requested that this matter be brought before the Board of Directors of the Pima County Medical Society for consideration and recommendations, so that it could be brought before the Pima County Medical Society at its next meeting. After discussion, it was moved that this recommendation be accepted and approved by the Board of Directors and brought before the Society for approval.
Letter from the Executive Director of the Better Business Bureau of Tucson concern--Mr. Stanley Marcus was read by the secretary. It was recommended that the Secretary call the Better Business Bureau on the telephone, giving such information as there is at hand and stating that an attempt has been made by the Society to handle this matter, but which has failed.
Motion was made that 25 Automobile Emblems be ordered for the Pima County Medical Society from the AMA for sale to members. A sample of this emblem is to be shown at the next meeting.
Letter from the Tucson Sunshine Climate Club thanking the Society for the appointment of Dr. O.J. Farness as its representative to that organization was read by the Secretary.
Notice from the Arizona Medical Association concerning the ruling by the Bureau of Internal Revenue to the effect that physicians may deduct for "Professional Assistance" from their income, was read by the Secretary.
The President stated that he had been approached by the Women's Club of Tucson for contribution for Christmas Tree decorations and the Nativity Scene. Motion was made that this be answered to the effect that physicians may contribute as individuals but that the Society cannot contribute.
Dr. Engle spoke in behalf of the Auxiliary concerning the annual AAPS Essay Contest, to say that they wished to refer this matter to the Society for further direction inasmuch as Mr. Morrow had stated that both the teachers and the pupils are too busy, and that the schools could have nothing to do with it, and also because it was felt that the subject--"Why This Country Furnishes Us with the Finest Medical Care" is not clever and might even arouse resentment among the parents. It was moved that the Society write the AAPS, telling them why the essay cannot be sponsored in this County.
