Request of Dr. Marguerite Williams for the reaction of the Board of Directors to a plan contemplated by the Health Committee of the Young Women's Christian Association for Group Therapy for Weight Reduction was, upon motion, turned over to the Public Relations Committee for study and recommendation to the Board of Directors.
Letter was read from the Arizona Medical Association stating that the Professional Board, at its Oct. 19, 1952, recommended that the affiliation of this Association with the American Cancer Society be that of an educational program, both public and professional, rather than the establishment of detection centers.
It was moved that the Public Relations Committee formulate a plan for recommendation to the Society for handling emergency call problems which are confronting the Doctor's Directory.
An article which appeared in the Star on 12-5-52 and which carried an article about the local Osteopathic Hospital, a prelude to a campaign fund drive to be put on about the middle of January, was discussed. It was felt that the paragraph which read "...and the hospital will deviate from its present status in that it will, when established, staff all qualified physicians as well as osteopathic surgeons." Might lead people to think that they are contributing to hospital beds which would be cared for by doctors of medicine. The Secretary was directed to obtain information form the Arizona Medical Association, to which this has been referred, before any action be taken.
Letter from the Arizona Medical Association conveying recommendations made to the Council by the Professional Board centering on policy of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis was read.
There was discussion of the fact that registered nurses are employed at the Osteopathic Hospital, and of whether or not this is ethical. It was moved that the secretary write the Nurses Association and find if there is anything in their code of ethics regarding such employment.
Meeting adjourned.
