Dr. Lesemann's report on the Southern Medical Seminar was passed among the members present.
Letter from the Arizona Medical Association, regarding the eligibility of Dr. N.C. Beldsoe and Dr. Frank Cohen to Fifty Year Club Membership, both men having received they M.D. degrees in 1903, was read by the Secretary. It was moved by Dr. Kent that Dr. Bledsoe and Dr. Frank Cohen be recommended for Fifty Year Club Membership by this society. Motion seconded by Dr. Rudolph and carried.
Communication from the Medical Society of the County of Erie was read by the Secretary. This is in reference to the Doctor Draft Law and asks the cooperation of all county medical societies on two resolutions which provide for revisions of Public Law #779 which is presently is under discussion at Washington, in order to make it more acceptable to the profession affected.
It was moved by Dr. Kent that the Pima County Medical Society go on record as approving the resolutions.
Dr. Manning wondered if these resolutions were in accord with the A.M.A. wishes.
Motion seconded by Dr. Hayden.
Dr. Steen remarked that the idea is to send these Resolutions to our Congressmen and Senators in Washington.
Dr. Harry Thompson proposed an amendment to Dr. Kent's motion that this matter be forwarded to the State Society. Dr. Kent accepted the amendment. Motion carried.
Information provided on Voluntary Pension Plans by the A.M.A., reference to H.R. 10 and H.R. 11, was submitted to the members present.
Dr. Lesemann suggested putting this in the newsletter.
Dr. Manning thought that the Secretary could summarize this material and say something about it to the Society at regular meeting.
A letter received from Mrs. Hermina Raff Montag of New York concerning the plight of former resident, Mr. and Mrs. S. Popov, now living in Tucson, was read by the Secretary. This is an elderly couple who came here seeking health and need help.
Dr. Bean remarked that he knew about these people, who have been to the County Clinic. He said that they are not eligible for County aid, and that the neighbors are raising hob about them, but they are not residents.
Dr. Harry Thompson suggested that since these people cannot be extended help through the County agency, it is our suggestion that they be sent back where they are eligible for care.
Dr. Royal Rudolph stated that it was the feeling of the Red Cross Committee, at its meeting the other night, that the Red Cross Blood Bank Director should belong to the County Medical Society; that because he is a public health officer and not in active practice, it would be rather a hardship for him to pay $110.00 a year dues; that Dr. Olean had said he did not feel that he wanted to pay this sum out of his own pocket, and it would therefore be necessary for the Chapter to pay his dues; and that he, Dr. Rudolph, noted from the By-Laws that Honorary membership carried no dues. payment.
Discussion:
Dr. Beaton--How do our V.A. members come in?
Dr. Hayden--Dr. Olean is employed by the Red Cross.
Dr. Rudolph--It was the feeling of this committee that if he belonged to the Society he would attend the meetings and it might create better relations between the Red Cross and the Medical Society, and I would like to make a recommendation to the Board of Directors that the Medical Director of the Red Cross Blood Bank be made an Honorary Member.
Dr. Hayden--There is Affiliate membership which would cover this under our new By-Laws, but has not yet been voted on.
