them out to convalescent care.
Letter from Lake County Medical Society asking for information concerning the standing of Dr. A.L. Lieberman was read. It was moved by Dr. Hayden that this letter be turned over to the Board of Censors for reply. Motion seconded by Dr. Kent and carried.
Dr. Lieberman's application for membership in the Pima County Medical Society was received. It was moved by Dr. Kent that this application be referred to the Board of Censors for proper action. Motion seconded by Dr. Beaton and carried. The matter of a personal cancelled check to the United Jewish Charities and contained in Dr. Lieberman's file was discussed. It has been requested by Dr. Lieberman that this check be returned to him for income tax purposes. It was moved by Dr. Beaton that this check be returned to Dr. Lieberman as his personal property. Motion seconded by Dr. Kent and carried.
A letter from Dr. Marguerite Williams regarding the reaction of the Board of Directors to a plan contemplated by the Health Committee of the Young Women's Christian Association for group therapy for weight reduction was read and discussed.
Dr. Beaton said that he is against this, because, 1. He is not sure it is medically sound, and 2. he is not sure that it would be very good for the practice of medicine, that it is ethically proper. He remarked that Dr. Williams is "nuts" about nutrition, and had fallen in with a number of quacks on the subject last year and was giving talks for them.
Dr. Costin remarked that this sounds like a purely personal matter on her part.
Dr. Manning did not believe the Society could give backing to any set program like this.
Dr. Kent said that when Dr. Williams started the YWCA Health Program and asked the cooperation of the Society for speakers, it was thought a good idea for public relations, but that she has tried to incorporate diet into every one of the subjects, arthritis, asthma, etc.; he did not see why the Society should either approve or disapprove this project, that it should be her project as long as it is not carried into a "cult".
Dr. Costin remarked that it is not the function of the Society to back any plan of therapy.
Dr. Kent thought, with Dr. Beaton, that this might be starting a "cult".
Dr. Hill thought this subject should have more consideration, recommendations should be made on how to answer this without quickly passing a hurried guess at it. He inquired whether this is not a matter for the Public Relations Committee.
Dr. Beaton felt there was no reason for Dr. Williams to seek the approval of the Society, that it is her business only.
Dr. Bernstein remarked that the YWCA might not understand the attitude of the Society if they were to receive a blunt reply; that possibly a very carefully worded letter would be a good idea.
Dr. Kent stated that the Public Relations Committee has cooperated with the YWCA on hundred per cent on the speaker's program, and that they would not be being cut off, but that he could not see why the Society should be further involved.
Dr. Cogswell remarked that if this is gone ahead with, and is finally run by laymen and cultists, the Society may be sorry.
Dr. Manning offered it as his objection that the Society would be giving its blessing to something it cannot control.
Dr. Engle moved that this matter be given to the Public Relations Committee for study and recommendations which are to be brought back to the Board of Directors. Motion seconded by Dr. Fraser and carried.
