BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
May 25, 1953
The meeting was called to order at 8:10 P.M. by Dr. Steen, Secretary.

Dr. Ian M. Chesser was present to consult on arrangements for the Picnic.
It was moved by Dr. L.E. Beaton to dispense with reading of the Minutes. Motion was seconded by Dr. Bean and carried.
Letter from the Arizona Medical Association advising that Dr. C.S. O'Brien stands officially suspended from membership for non-payment of dues was read. The Secretary advised that Dr. O'Brien has been formally advised of his suspension from Pima County Medical Society by the same reason.
The eligibility of Dr. Julius Olean of the Southern Arizona Regional Blood Center was discussed, and Dr. Olean is to be sent an application blank.
The revisions of the By-Laws in relation to new membership categories were discussed, particularly with reference to Chapter IV, Section 4, Associate Members, the sentence "They must be residing in the State of Arizona." Dr. Harry Thompson, of the By-Laws Committee, stated that this clause refers only to item (3), and that item (2) would apply to those men who take post graduate or residency work after having been in active practice.
Dr. Beaton inquired if there were still an honorary classification, and it this might not be used for these people.
Dr. Manning remarked that the principle is one of retaining some connection with one's former medical society, as, for instance, that he still carried his membership in the District of Columbia Society in an affiliate capacity.
Communication from the Arizona Medical Association stated that resolutions adopted by the Medical Society of the County of Erie, relating to the Doctor Draft Law, were presented to Council in annual meeting April 26, and at its direction referred to the Reference Committee of the House of Delegates for further deliberation and recommendation. The report to the House, we are advised, indicated the matter was tabled by the Reference Committee.
Communication from the Arizona Medical Association was received stating that the letter of March 18, 1953, from this Society, referring the matter of narcotic prescriptions to the Council, had been referred to the Resolutions Committee of the House of Delegates for study and preparation of a proper resolution if indicated, to be presented for consideration by the House during annual session, but that no resolution on the subject was introduced.
Dr. Harry Thompson stated that this matter is still being studied by the Legislative Committee. (Correspondence filed under "Pharmacy Act."
Letter was received from the Medical Advisory Board for the Pima County Chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, in which were presented the functions of the Medical Advisory Committee, General rules for the management of the polio center at St. Mary's hospital, and acceptance of the report
