Dr. D.W. Neubauer, Chairman of the Civil Defense Committee, spoke of continued attempts to organize on a stand-by and practical basis, and called upon the members to cooperated. He stated that effort was being made to organize two mobile units which could coordinate between El Paso and Tucson, and that the need of the town is the organization of casualty clearing units. Requests for cooperation in setting up such units have been made to the schools and churches. One has been set up at the Benedictine Convent, with Dr. A.J. Wagner assigned. The Convent has agreed to contribute stretcher bearers; Norman Drug will supply drugs and supplies; and Speedway Lumber Company will make cots and stretchers. The plan is to make other such assignments, everyone cooperating. Letters will be sent out to the members of the Society with their assignments to either a unit or one of the hospitals. Doctors will not be called upon, he said, for such things as giving first aid courses.
Dr. Donald F. Hill spoke about the Community Chest Drive, urging everyone to contribute, suggesting that the individual doctors make up their minds what they can and want to do and then let their secretaries know, thereby avoiding interruption and annoyance in the office.
Dr. Harold W. Kohl announced the forthcoming meeting of the Southwestern Medical Association to be held at the Pioneer October 29-31, stating that the committee had gone to a good deal of effort to provide a good program and hoped for a good local attendance.
Dr. Stuart Sanger announced that the American College of Physicians will have a regional meeting at the Pioneer Hotel on Wednesday, October 28, before the Southwestern Medical Association meeting opens.
