Dr. Thompson--Dr. Finn should be informed and the facts brought out before this comes up again.
Dr. Beaton--Dr. Neubauer really admits that his grievance is against the way the case was handled.
Motion, upon being put to the question, was carried.
A letter from Dr. Hugh C. Thompson, 1953 chairman of the Child Guidance Committee, giving a report of the past year's activities, was read by the Secretary, and received.
A letter from Mrs. Russell Hearn, President of the Pima County Council of the Parent Teacher's Association, relative to making information on the State Department of Public Health available to voters, was read by the Secretary. This is to be acknowledged, with the information that the Society has gone on record as approving the Bills under question for the improvement of this Department.
The Secretary read a copy of a letter from the Red Cross thanking members of he Advisory Committee for their help during the past year.
Statement of Accounts for the month ending January 31, 1954, was submitted by the Secretary-Treasurer.
A resolution was read and passed, enabling Dr. W.T. Hileman to obtain access to the Safety Deposit Box, upon motion of Dr. E.M. Hayden, seconded by Dr. L.E. Beaton, and carried.
Dr. E.M. Hayden presented a personal communication from Mr. Robert Carpenter in regard of Dr. Nathan Schneck. Dr. Schneck, it seems, has an unfavorable record with the Continental Insurance Company, who paid him $13,500.00 to buy back a non-Cancellable policy issued to him. The National Casualty Company, which carries the group policy for the Arizona Medical Association, is disturbed about this, as it seems that Dr. Schneck is known to have boasted that he did not care about losing the Continental policy, as he had the National to fall back on. The National Casualty Company felt that the local Society should have knowledge of this situation and wanted us to be aware of what is going on. They had an investigator down to try to check Dr. Schneck's appointment books, which he refused to show them.
Discussion:
Dr. Beaton--I do not see what we can do about it. Our difficulty is that we have some bad experiences like this, the National Casualty Company will pull out.
Dr. Rudolph--That policy stated that one has to be in practice.
Dr. Bernstein--Dr. Schneck has made four or five abortive attempts to practice and then gets sick.
Dr. Hayden--This fellow Williams in Phoenix was drawing insurance and went back to work, opened his office for one week, so that he could take up this policy.
Dr. Bernstein--I understood that it was difficult to pull anything over on these insurance companies. Why did they not get smart to this individual?
Dr. Hayden--He could not be refused. He was supposedly working full time.
Dr. Beaton--Have they asked for any action?
Dr. Hayden--No. They only want us to be aware of it.
Dr. Bernstein--We do not know his physical state.
Dr. Beaton--The actual situation is that on these two plans they have paid out more than they have taken in. If they have to pay these policies back it would be a loss for the first year of over $27,000.00.
Dr. Bernstein--Many of us have taken out his policy for the reason that we know it is a good type of insurance for those of us who are not eligible for other insurance.
Dr. Hayden--I was wondering if this would be a matter for the Board of Censors, perhaps to call this man in and lay the matter on the table to him?
