Dr. Bernstein--"No, this is not being done, except in the regular Television program announcement.
Dr. Butcher--"Would that not be in order? I do not believe that we are using the medium of advertising for the program which we could use."
Dr. W.B. Steen--"There is one phase of this about which I would like to speak. When this program was suggested, some of the members of the Board of Directors were in favor of it and others were opposed. Now that the Society has decided to do this, I feel that everyone should get in an put his shoulder to the wheel. I opposed it in the beginning, but I will now do the best I can to help.
Dr. John J. Rupp--"My impression is that, if it is as favorably received as Dr. Stephens says, we should wait and have a sponsor advertise it, and not do so ourselves. If it is as good as it is said to be, it ought to be in the hands of a sponsor before too long."
Dr. Bernstein--"Of course, a Television Station is in business to sell time. Mr. Jack Underwood attitude, at our last Board of Directors meeting, seemed to me to be very, very favorable. He talked about such programs which were put on in other cities or counties, but was sure that none of them had a program such as we have. However, in all fairness, you realize that Television stations do not exist on public service, they have to sell their time, and they now have the hope of obtaining a sponsor for us. Out arrangement with them, however, was such that they promised us not to go ahead unless we approve. Mr. Underwood said that contact had already been made with one, which he presented to us for our approval. This was not approved, pending ratification here. The Martin Drug Company is willing and anxious to sponsor us. We felt, however, after discussion, that we had better not go along with this until we hade the impression of the Society. Are there any comments on sponsorship?"
Dr. John K. Bennett--"Mr. President, do you know whether any percentage of the programs have to be sponsored, so far as the Federal Communications are concerned?"
Dr. Bernstein--"I am sure I do not know. It is my impression that this program is doing us lot of good and is giving us an opportunity to be of service to the people in town."
Dr. John J. Rupp--"Has the Drug Association itself been considered?"
Dr. Bernstein--That was discussed. Mr. Underwood said that he has never yet been able to get all the druggists together to arrive at any conclusions."
The President asked it there were any further business. There being none, he made the following announcements:
Dr. Elizabeth Laidlaw requests announcement of the invitation extended by the Physical Education Department of the Tucson Senior High School to any doctor who is interested in seeing the way in which swimming is taught in the High School. A demonstration of their methods is to take place at the YMCA on Tuesday evening, January 19, at 7:30 P.M.
The Red Cross Drive is about to begin, and those who will accept donations from physicians will be the wives of physicians. The President urged members to instruct their secretaries to deal courteously with them, citing instances in the past when, unfortunately, some very busy doctors made the error of making members of the Auxiliary wait long periods of time.
Dr. Butcher added to this the remark that the women of the Auxiliary are, for this
